Hi, I am trying to get Event Espresso to work with PayPal but I am not really comfortable with if I am setting things up correctly. I have a Business PayPal account as I am using my business with Event Espresso. Is there anyone who would like to give support me by doing a Skype, FaceTime or TeamViewer meeting to go it through? I’ve subscribed to the VIP membership. π Thanks in advance! ~Andreas |
Hi Andreas, Live support is available with the purchase of priority support. I can help you here or if you want to do a live chat, we can ping you a private chat URL. |

Hi Josh! I would very much appreciate a live chat. What is the price for priority support? Sincerely, |
Hi again Josh, I have now bought a Priority Support token and redeemed the ticket by entering all necessary information. I really hope you guys can help me out urgently as I am so behind Go Live date for my Event to which I am about to promote and sell tickets online. Thank you in advance! Sincerely, |
Hi Andreas, I followed up with your email. Please check you inbox. |

Hi again Josh, Thank you for for phenomenal support. I updated the page “Thank you” with info about that it may take time for PayPal to send the payment info back to the Event Management System. But I noticed that the customers do not get that information. My guess is that in the IPN settings in PayPal, I have pointed to the page https://mydomain.com/transaction Thank you! |
Hi Andreas, It turns out that they will not ever see the /transactions page. This is because the /transactions page’s only function is an IPN listener for PayPal. So your transactions page isn’t the one they’ll see on return. Can you go to Event Espresso > General Settings and verify the page that’s set for the Auto Return URL is the thank you page and it has the new message you added and the |

Hi Josh, I verified according to your comments. Everything is set up as you advice. Sincerely, |
Hi Andreas, I can’t imagine how that would happen. Are you caching anything on this site? |
Strange. Now I encountered a customer who paid via PayPal & it went through as OK from PayPal. Was automatically redirected back to my website, but since the IPN message hadn’t been sent yet (or processed) the customer did not get the Thank you page. Instead got a page show that payment was not done yet. |
Hi Andreas, What was the page ID of the page they ended up on? |
Unfortunately I forgot to ask the customer. Sincerely, |
Can you try testing it to see which page you end up on? |
Jumping in here to read the response to your last problem – I’m having the same issue. |
And my customers stay on the registration page because it returns as incomplete. |
Can you check to see if there any non-alphanumeric characters in either the event’s name or the attendee names when this happens? |
For the customers that encountered the issue, neither of them had non-alphanumeric characters in the event’s name or the attendees names. |
I think I know what might be wrong… π It seems as I’ve managed to activate something that PayPal calls “Payment Data Transfer” which is not the same as IPN (Instant Payment Notification). Payment Data Transfer is described as… I think this is not to be confused by IPN, right? Maybe this is the root-cause, as I think that for this function (Payment Data Transfer), I’ve also entered my URL to the transaction page. Or am I on the wrong path? |
Please update to Event Espresso 3.1.37.3.p, that may fix the issue you’re seeing. |
Thank you for your feedback Josh. I see that I run version 3.1.37.2.p, but I do not see any “update plugin” in WordPress for version 3.1.37.3.p? Or do I have to do a manual update? As my site is in live production with ticket sales right now, could something get “damaged” or “corrupted”? Thank you! Sincerely, |
Hi Andreas, If you go to Event Espresso -> General Settings and simply click to save the settings it will force EE to check for updates. Then you should be able to go to your plugin list and update. Nothing in the latest update should cause problems, however it is always recommended to create a full site backup before update plugins, theme or WordPress itself… just to be safe π |

Hi Tony, I’ve backed up all my files and the whole database. What shall I do? Need urgent assistance! Sincerely, |
Hi Andreas, If the automatic update fails, you can follow these steps and do a manual update: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/#update_manually |
