This morning 8h14 following an autmatic WordPress updated, all confirmation emails were resent, until our hosting blocked SMTP after 500 mails or so. Understandably, they were not amused, and made clear that this should be a one time situation. As a developer, it makes me look foolish, really. Any idea how this could have happened? Just to be clear: all resent emails were sent succesfully earlier, so it is not an issue of queueing mails that were suddenly released.

Well, apparently it is ONLy those who paid with Mollie that got theier confirmation emails resent. It is the same issue as march 2020 (see earlier support post). |

(also noteworthy: all registrations are and were set to APPROVED – the default for all our events, so no changes there either) |
Hi Sara, I’d like to investigate this further to see if I can narrow down the cause, but I’ll need to be able to reproduce the problem to see what is happening on the request itself. So what I’d like to do is the same as what I suggested in your previous thread: Do you have a database backup of the site before the update ran and would you be willing to send me it? What I would like to do is install a copy of the site locally with email disabled and then run the update to see if the messages retrigger again, if I can reproduce then I can then work through to find out what is causing the problem. |

I’ll send you an email. I’d rather not talk about databases in a public forum. |
Just noting here in case you’ve sent an email already, I’ve not received anything as of yet. The email address we recommend using is support[at]eventespresso.com. |

I sent it to tony[at]eventespresso.com – is that ok? |

Any news on this topic? |
Hi there, Sort of, but nothing helpful I’m afraid. I’ve repeatedly tested updating the database you sent me from 5.6.1 to 5.6.2 in various ways. I’ve force automatic updates, allowed ‘normal’ automatic updates to take place (pretty much exactly the same as forcing them only they’ll run on a cron request), manually updated, etc. All with and without Mollie enabled in case it made a difference. However, nothing has triggered any kind of mass emails to send, or in fact any Emails from EE at all. It could be something from another plugin on the request which I’d be happy to test if you can send me a .zip of the sites files? (Obviously don’t include that here) |

Hi Tony, in hindsight it wasn’t smart to send you a backup of the database after the update. I sent you another mail at tony[at]eventespresso.com (DropSend). |
