As you can see, the formatting is non-existant. Do I have to style it myself or is it supposed to come pre-styled?
It feels like something is broken, although I did the DIVI fix that I read about on your website, I also disabled plugins and themes to test to see if it was that. It still didn’t work. I’m confused?! Help!

Hi there,
So you had that exact same problem on a default theme such as twenty seventeen?
Did you test creating a standard page (not using a page builder) with a default theme?
The problem with the page you linked to can happen with page builders, EE can’t find its shortcode within the content of the page due to how the page builder is adding the content so then the grid template add-on isn’t adding any of its CSS or scripts to the page.
However, if that’s also happening with a default theme then there’s another issue.

Yes, same problem. I did it again and took screenshots. One with twentynineteen active and then one with divi active.

Hi,
Your link goes to a coming soon splash page, so it’s not really possible for us to investigate to find what’s going on.
If I were to guess from looking at the screenshots, it looks like maybe somehow you’ve copied over some <pre> tags or even <code> tags from the documentation. If you switch the editor from “Visual” to “Text” are there any extra tags before and after the shortcode?

Ah yes ok, that did help a bit. I’m sorry I totally forgot I had that coming soon page up. I’ve removed it and you can see what I’m seeing now.

That’s what the events page will look like with Divi. Basically EE4 does not add a lot of CSS that tries to override the theme’s CSS. So when it’s a plain theme like Divi the event pages will also look plain.
As an example to show some contrast, this demo site uses the Baskerville theme which is a theme that applies more in the way of styling:
