Hi guys,

Do you need this add-on installed in order for EE4 to link registrations with EE contacts?

I deactivated a few weeks ago and notice a recent registration isn’t tied to the contact (it doesn’t show when looking at their contact details). I haven’t checked others.

What links the registrations to contacts? email, phone, etc.?

Thanks, Derek

I just looked at the contact in question. There are 3 contacts for the same person. The differences are:

1 – lowercase email, phone no dashes
2 – lowercase email, phone with dashes
3 – uppercase first letter in email, phone no dashes

I would think these are pretty common differences when return customers enter their data. What are the recommendations on how to reduce duplicate contacts?

Thanks, Derek

Hi Derek,

1 – lowercase email, phone no dashes
2 – lowercase email, phone with dashes

Those two should make no difference as the phone question is not checked when searching for existing contacts. The contact should be found based email, first name and last name only, if one is found the phone number quesiton will be updated with the latest answer.

Original contact – http://take.ms/W0tLb

Re-registered with dashes in number – http://take.ms/6XQVJ

The contact is updated with the new number but it is the original contact shown by the ID. As you can see about I’ve just tested this to confirm, are you using the latest version of Event Espresso?

3 – uppercase first letter in email, phone no dashes

email@example.com is actually a different email address than Email@example.com

The domain name is generally case insensitive, but the username may not be.

So email@example.com is equal to email@eXaMpLe.com

But is not equal to eMaIl@example.com or eMaIl@eXaMpLe.com

Most providers fix/ignore this for you but some do not, meaning we need to accommodate for both setups but I’ll double check with our developers on this.

Thanks, Tony.

Can we easily merge the users into 1?

Thanks, Derek

Can we easily merge the users into 1?

Not easily now, you’d need to alter the database.

I missed a couple of questions above so will also answer those:

Do you need this add-on installed in order for EE4 to link registrations with EE contacts?

No, but you do need the add-on to link the WP USER to the EE contact and display their events.

I deactivated a few weeks ago and notice a recent registration isn’t tied to the contact (it doesn’t show when looking at their contact details). I haven’t checked others.

If there are any differences in the EE contact details (First Name, Last Name, Email) then a new contact will be created. The WP User Integration has an option to keep the current WP users details in sync with the details they use during the registration, but not that if they register someone else on the event as a primary registrant it changes their EE contact details and their WP Users account details to match.

What links the registrations to contacts? email, phone, etc.?

The First Name, Last Name and the Email address details are used to search for an EE contact. If one exists the registration is assigned that contacts ID which means the WP user integration add-on can pull the EE contact for the current user and list all of the events assigned to that contact.
