Are you only compatible with wordpress or also on Squarespace?

WordPress only. If you have a SquarePress site you might be interested in Event Smart, which doesn’t require setting up a WordPress site, but features the same features as Event Espresso:

Just to clarify..It seems like eventsmart is a lot more expensive than Event Espresso, is this correct?

It may seem that way, but you’re getting world class hosting included there with Event Smart, plus you don’t deal with updates or anything like that.
With self-hosted Event Espresso there are he costs of paying for better than average hosting, the costs of time with running plugin updates, updating and managing a WordPress site, in addition to the Event Espresso support license.
