My client asked this question? When an event sells out and EE4 automatically changes the status to ‘Sold Out’ it no longer appears on the Events/Overview page under Upcoming. It should b/c it is still an upcoming tour. Can this be changed so that “Upcoming” shows all of the upcoming events regardless of whether they have sold out?

I responded with this answer from the forum: To explain a little, this appears to be caused by Event Espresso’s auto Sold Out status.
When your event sales reach the datetime limit, Event Espresso automatically sets the status to Sold Out, at this point the events are removed from the calendar. If you then update the event the Sold Out status then actually becomes ‘user defined’, so not automatic any longer, at this point the events are visible on the calendar once again.
I have created a ticket for the developers to investigate this issue. For the time being if you wish for Sold Out events to be visible on the Calendar just update the events while they are Sold Out to ensure the status is not no longer automatic.

He responded with this:
I appreciate your time and effort and I agree with you. However, what you have found out is not universally true. Some of the time you can simply change the status back to Published but not always. Some of the time that option is not shown on the drop down menu. Some of the time it is not.

It has to do with the way EE4 changes the status. In addition to changing the status from Published to Sold Out, the other thing that happens is that EE4 automatically deselects the category — so say its a 60 min tour, and 60 Min is the selected category; when it auto changes from Published to Sold Out it unchecks the category selection box, which means that it will not show up under a search for the 60 min tours (or on the calendar, or under “Upcoming” on the Events page). When that happens, you have to reselect the 60 min category and then reselect Published to get it to show back up.

What I am asking the developers to do is just provide a way in the Calendar settings to elect whether or not to have “sold out” status shown as well as “published” status. That should be an easy fix for them, and would work fine for us. Then, my 2nd topic was to have them show both ‘published’ and ‘sold out’ under ‘Upcoming’ on the Events page.

Just a note that we have not upgraded to 4.4.5.p or the calendar 3.2.0.p

We are running 4.4.1.p and 3.1.0.p

Should I recommend this to the client first?

Hi Chuck,

Please do update to Event Espresso 4.4.5 as that fixes one-click updates for the calendar along with a handful of fixes for the core plugin since your version:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-changelog/#4.4.5

The template settings does not currently have a toggle to show sold out events. Are you looking for a toggle similar to the show expired events toggle here?

Thanks Lorenzo!
All has been updated. I’m getting this error: Event Espresso recommends PHP version 5.4.33 or greater for optimal performance. You are currently running version 5.3.24.
In order to update your version of PHP, you will need to contact your current hosting provider.

Called HostGator and they said they changed it to 5.4 but I’m still getting the error message.

Hi, you should be able to dismiss that. The check runs when Event Espresso is initially activated.
