Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere but… How should the waiting list form behave after ticket sales have ended, (but before the event has started)? I have an event taking place on 8th and 9th June which (at least on my test site) is sold out. Ticket sales ended on 6th June. I tested the event today. The waiting list button still appears on the event, but when the waiting list form comes up there are no ticket preferences available to select (presumably because there are no tickets left that anyone can buy). The user is left with a form that they cannot submit (because an essential question has not been answered and in fact cannot be answered because there are no options to select), but the user is not informed as to what’s going on and why this is the case. It took me ages to figure out what was going on here because there was no message to the user explaining why there were no options they could select. I’m not sure how the form should operate, but I’m guessing that this isn’t it! I would suggest (probably) automatically removing the waiting list button at this stage, but I’d guess there are other ways you could solve this issue. (Perhaps some message to the user). Please correct me if I’ve mis-understood the situation here. Thank you |

Hi Daniel, So currently the waitlist add-on simply checks for an event status of sold out and that the event has waitlist spaces available, but it doesn’t check to confirm the tickets themselves are ‘on sale’ based on the dates. Its an oversight on how the waitlist form is added which we’ll need to address.
In my opinion, the ‘best’ solution for this is to not add the waitlist form in the above situation. It doesn’t really make sense for use to include expired (sell until is in the past) tickets within the wailist form (for example you don’t want waitlist registrations selecting an early bird ticket they missed the dates to register onto). Displaying an error message to the user isn’t the solution as its telling the user to fix a problem created by the admin. So not adding the waitlist form when there are no ‘available’ tickets to select for the waitlist makes the most sense here and I’ll creat a ticket for this. — Side note, for the time being you can work around this issue by setting the Ticket Selector NOT to display expired tickets. Go to Event Espresso -> Events -> Templates. Under ‘Ticket Selector Template Settings’ set ‘Show Expired Tickets?’ to No. When all of your tickets are expired no ticket selector will be shown an therefor no waitlist. It’s not a ‘proper’ solution to the problem raised with the waitlist form but should prevent some confusion in the meantime. |

Thanks Tony – that’s really helpful. Daniel |

Just some personal feedback… The work-around you’ve suggested does work, but the user is simply presented with the error message “Sorry sales for this event have ended”, which feels rather abrupt to me and I didn’t much like. I think it’s probably much nicer to have the buttons with sold out displaying greyed out accompanied by a message saying something like “Sales for this event have now ended”. (And of course no wait list button). |

It is possible to change that text… however… The next version of the waitlist add-on will simply not add the button for events which do not have ‘active’ tickets on sale. The change is currently under review and if no issues are found it will likely be pushed live next week. |

That’s good to know Tony. Thank you for letting me know. |
