Is there a way to allow users to continue to view the event description even after the event is full? There are details of the event that are updated as people sign up on the site, I want them to be able to return to the event to see assignment details. I also want my event admins to be able to edit a full event from the outside of the site instead of the dashboard.

Those are probably two separate issues but I really need to allow people to view the event details even after it’s full.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Laran,

Currently the only way to do this is via editing one of the template files.

As this is a fairly common request I have created a basic example template here https://gist.github.com/Apina/7868957

Editing an event from outside the dashboard is not currently possible.

Thank you Dean. I assume this needs to go in the custom template folder. If that isn’t true just let me know. Otherwise I will assume it does.

As far as being able to edit the event. With this template, if the event is full but the event admin needs to add something to the description, will the “edit event” button show on the event registration page for someone with the proper admin to do so?

It should go in the uploads/espresso/templates folder. And the edit event link will appear even if the event is full.

I created the file and named it exactly what was recommended. Nothing has changed. Do I need to change a setting in my dashboard?

Also, the file did not already exist in the folder specified, that folder was completely empty.

Hey,

Sorry I missed out a part of advise on the gist. Please make sure that the registration_page.php file is also copied over to the same location, even if you are not editing it (they are linked files).

You may also need a blank index.php file in the same location.

Dean,

I have done all you suggested. Here’s what I receive when I go to the template settings page. If I click on the button above these files it renames my folder and renders the files ineffective. Based on the below information, I’m being directed to move the rest of these files to the same folder but the article linked in the previous communication says to only move the “pairs” which I have done.

What am I missing? Should I copy all those files into the uploads/espresso/templates folder?

Current Template Files:

attendee_list.php – Not Moved – (displays a list of attendees)
event_list.php – Not Moved – (logic for displaying the list of events)
event_list_display.php – Not Moved – (displays a list of events)
event_post.php – Not Moved – (create-a-post template)
payment_page.php – Not Moved – (displays your payment page text)
registration_page.php – Moved – (logic for displaying the registration form)
registration_page_display.php – Moved – (displays your registration form)
confirmation_display.php – Not Moved – (displays a confirmation page for free events)
return_payment.php – Not Moved – (page that is displayed when returning to pay)
widget.php – Not Moved – (creates a widget for use in your theme)
shopping_cart.php – Not Moved – (this is the shopping cart page)

You only copy the files which have been modified, with it’s partner if it has one.

So in your example, Dean provided a modified registration_page_display.php, the partner file would be registration_page.php, both of which should (and are) now be in wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates.

Can you link to the full event so we can check the template files are loading correctly please?

Here’s the link, You’ll have to login as I have this behind S2Members. Where should I send a UN and PW?

Looks like it’s loading registration_page.php and registration_page_display.php from uploads/espresso/templates.

So that part is working, I still don’t see the “edit event” tab when view from the website. Do you?

I would have to be logged in as an admin to see that. Have you sent in creds to here?

Hello,

I sent login credentials last week but haven’t heard back.

Hoping to have the solution for the client by January.

Thanks for all your help and happy holidays.

Hi,

Apologies it was my error. I looked at the file again and it doesn’t work!

Looking at it I made the modifications to the wrong file, no idea why I didn’t see the issues.

Please remove both of those files from the uploads/templates and add this one (registration_page.php https://gist.github.com/Apina/8146640) and copy across the default registration_page_display.php and it should be good to go.

Let me know if there are any further issues as I want to keep this file up to date if possible as many people request a template like this.

That worked! Thank you Dean. One last piece… What would I add to that file so that the people with the permission to edit the events would see the “edit event” button at the bottom?

Thank you

Laran

Hi Laran,

No problem, sorry for the initial error on my part.

Hmm the edit link should be automatic, but it appears to not be working for different roles. I’ll raise a ticket to look into this further.
