I see where if I buy Version 3, Version 4 is available to me at no additional cost.
Is it okay to install both versions on the same WordPress installation and just activate one and deactivate the other until I decide which one I prefer?
Although it is possible to do so, EE3 and EE4 are vastly different systems and use different database tables. You can create events with EE3 and test out the functionality, then migrate the date from EE3 to EE4 and test that out if you wish.
However changes made in EE4 will not be reflected within EE3 if you do switch back.
Personally I would recommend setting up a local test site, installing EE3 on that site, testing out the functionality and then de-active and install EE4, migrate the data over and test out EE4 functionality. Switching to and from causes minor issues such as you’ll need to change shortcodes on EE critical pages but still is not something we recommend doing on a regular basis.
