I’m wondering if you’ve ever considered linking venues to date-times instead of the event? The reason is this, we have two “events” for which there are multiple ticket options, here are the two scenarios: Music Festival (1 venue, 4 date/times with 5 tickets) 1 pass (good for 4 date/times) and 1 ticket for each date/time. Theatre Festival (4 venues, 4 date/times with 5 tickets) 1 pass and 1 ticket for each. The issue arises when we create the pass for a festival with more than one venue. Since the venues are linked to events we’re unable to sell the passes and have the purchased quantities automatically deducted from the total available spaces. I know I can reduce the number of available tickets for each event based on how many passes we intend to sell but that could leave us selling out of tickets with passes available and potentially losing sales. Just a thought. If the venue was linked to a date-time instead of an event it would allow for the creation of this kind of event. |
Hi Scott, Thank you for the feedback, I will add this as a feature request. However there is one point I am unsure of, with this setup: Theatre Festival (4 venues, 4 date/times with 5 tickets) 1 pass and 1 ticket for each. Are you using the datetimes as venues in this example? I’m unsure why single ticket sales can be used, but the passes cannot? If you apply the ticket pass all datetimes a sale of that ticket will add a sale to each datetime. |

Basically, it comes down to the value of the venue management options. We want people to be able to see what’s upcoming at each venue, in each event category, and still be able to tie multi-date, multi-venue events together for special ticketing options such as passes. Because the venue is linked to the event, we have to choose between using the Venue feature as it is intended (to group events by venue) and selling a pass. If we decide to do the pass without losing management/attendance functionality we have to either not select a venue or choose a venue that is not actually an event location. So, if someone heard about a movie at Cinema Two and searched for what’s coming up at Cinema Two they would not find it this way. I’ve created the two examples for you here: http://thisisntjournalism.ca/events/film-festival/ If someone wanted to know what’s coming up at The Music Venue they would simply have to search the venue name or visit the venue page. If someone wants to see what’s coming up at Cinema One there’d be nothing listed under the venue. The configuration I created in the example is what we’d do now as a workaround but having the ability to choose the venue based ont he date-time instead of the event page would resolve this without impacting any other functionality, I think. I am sure there are more use-case scenarios that could benefit from this. Thanks for your help and clarification request, please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help. |
Thank you for the detailed explanation, and the examples Scott. I understand now. This will require input from both the developers and support so I have started an internal discussion on this. Just to note, assigning venues to datetimes is significantly different to how EE currently works so this will not be a quick change (if it is in fact taken on as there are already multiple plans for EE4’s roadmap). However your feedback is very much appreciated as without it, we can not improve EE4 ๐ |

You know I was thinking about this. Acknowledging your point that – in terms of coding – the suggested idea could be a challenge or not doable which seems totally valid to me. What about just allowing tickets to be linked to more than one event instead of just date-times? That would also solve the problem but it seems to me that it would be a less challenging way of achieving the same result but potentially with even greater flexibility. I don’t know how this is built, but I figured there could be some value in sharing an alternative idea. |
Sure, we welcome any feedback/ideas ๐ I’ll add this to the discussion, would you be interested in sponsoring development to help speed up and/or have further input into how this feature would be implemented? If so if you could provide some further details using this form: https://eventespresso.com/rich-features/sponsor-new-features/ A member of the team will be in touch to discuss this further. |
