Hi there,

I’m on EE4.6.6p

I think I’ve found a problem with the venue and google maps.

I’m in the UK, I added a venue with no country included, just street address, City and then postcode, which would be an official address in the UK. However the on the event, the City and postcode become merged with no ‘space’ in between or the preferred ‘comma’ and then ‘space’ This also seems to mean that no google map is displayed even though it is selected to display good map in the edit page.

If I add the country as UK, google then works, as when a country is included it also adds a ‘comma’ and then a ‘space’ which then separated the postcode for google to understand.

However even though the google map now displayed, the address is still incorrectly formatted on the event page, as there is no ‘comma’ and ‘space in between the city and country.

I think this is an error.

I’d be grateful if someone could take a look,

Kindest Regards,

Tony

Hi chrisscottuk,

If I add the country as UK, google then works, as when a country is included it also adds a ‘comma’ and then a ‘space’ which then separated the postcode for google to understand.

I’m also from the UK and have input various venue locations without a ‘State’ (County) and Country without issue. It likely depends on how generic the location is, could you provide an example of a none working Venue address?

However even though the google map now displayed, the address is still incorrectly formatted on the event page, as there is no ‘comma’ and ‘space in between the city and country.

I have created a ticket to investigate this.

Sure, do you have an email address I can send the venue details to?

Hi,

You can send it to support@eventespress.com, just make sure you include a link to this forum thread so we can tie the email to it.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the email, that certainly helped pinpoint the issue. It looks like this is an outstanding small bug affecting the address format. We have a ticket already for this and I will update it to include the information you have provided.

Hi Chris,

We wanted to let you know about an enhancement in the current version of Event Espresso 4 that offers more flexibility for venue addresses.

First, please backup your WordPress site and upgrade to the latest release of Event Espresso 4:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-changelog/

Next, there is some sample code in this link:

https://gist.github.com/lorenzocaum/5e2658a1f7e7a9a6b5c0

Here is an explanation of the sample code:

In the older versions of Event Espresso, you could change the formatting for the venue address. However, this would apply to all venue addresses. The new enhancement is more flexible as it allows you to change the formatting for certain countries.

In the example code, we have an entry for United Kingdom which has a country code of GB. Then we have the actual formatting which doesn’t include the province or the country name.

Just below that, we have an entry for Canada which has a country code of CA. In Canada, the zip/postal code appears as the end of the address so the formatting will show it in that order.

Below that is an entry for Germany which has a country code of DE with a specific formatting for the address.

If you have modified the venue address through an existing function, then you may consider switching to the new one mentioned in the link above.

Thanks!

Lorenzo
