My EE install was recently updated and the venue I had associated with the event seems to have been removed. All registration emails are being sent with blank venue detail areas. I’ve tried to find the venue section on the event detail page, but it doesn’t exist. Also the ticket section no longer exists.

We published this event and tested before the update, and all was working fine. Just seems that this update broke some of the functionality.

This is what I see on the page now: https://share.getcloudapp.com/NQuW7K7G

Test emails: https://share.getcloudapp.com/6qubvxEK

Hi there,

That’s really strange! We have identified an issue with venue migrations on some setups and have a fix in the next version of Event Espresso … however, the missing sections within the editor is not something I’ve seen before.

First, let’s confirm they somehow have been set to no longer be visible.

Edit the event and in the top right of the page you should see a screen options tab, click that.

Does it show you checkboxes for an ‘Event Tickets & Datetimes’ & ‘Venues Details’ section?

Thanks Tony. I do not see those as “visibility options” in the screen options tab.

Hmm ok.

So first, let’s address the Venue issue. We’ve identified the problem and fixed it from version 5.0.3 (which has just been released), we need to get your site running the latest version and then force it to re-run the migration to fix the venues (to do that you can just install a plugin, run the migration and then delete that plugin again).

Unfortunately, we’ve also identified and issue on some servers which prevents the one-click update from working in version 5.0.2 and I just get a sneaky feeling it’s going to happen on yours, because why not!

On your site, go to Event Espresso -> General Settings.

Make no changes and just hit save to force an update check.

Now in Dashboard -> Plugins, does it show an update for Event Espresso? If so, click to update, does it work or show you are on the latest version?

If it shows the latest version you’ll need to manually update.

Download the latest .zip from your account page.

On the site again go to Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add New -> Upload Plugin.

Select the .zip you just download and upload.

WordPress should tell you the plugin already exists and ask if you want to replace it. Confirm the plugins match (other than version number) and select to replace it.

Now you’re on version 5.0.3 (The above issue should not happen again with 5.0.3+)

Same issue with the editor? (We’ll get to troubleshooting that shortly, I want to fix your venues first)

Thank you Tony. I walked through your steps (you were correct the one click update didn’t work). Thank you for providing the alternative instructions.

Unfortunately, the venue is still blank in my messages. https://share.getcloudapp.com/qGuqrrvl

To confirm that the update occurred, here is a screenshot showing the current version: https://share.getcloudapp.com/geuEdddY

(The editor still has the same issue, just FYI)

Ok, so venues being blank is still expected… you need to be on 5.0.3 to fix the issue but we haven’t done anything to fix it on your site yet.

First, create a database backup, just to be safe. We are rerunning the migration that EE runs when you update to EE5 and that backup is needed if something goes wrong.

Then install the plugin from HERE on the site.

Note that as soon as you activate that plugin it will put Event Espresso into maintenance mode.

Go to Event Espresso -> Maintenance.

Click ‘My database is backed up, continue’ then complete the migration.

Once complete your venues should be fixed and we’ll look at the editor issue.

Thanks Tony. So, I performed these steps on my staged environment and didn’t seem to have any issues updating. The venue is now appearing in the test message, I’m not sure if the broken image is a result of being in the staged environment or not.

Still unable to edit tickets on the event page though.

Regarding the venue assignments, that’s great!

The broken image can be from a lot of different things, its usually due to your Google Maps API key not having access to the static maps API… or the domain in use doesn’t function with the key.

If you view a venue does it display a Google Map on staging?

Still unable to edit tickets on the event page though.

OK, so now let’s start looking into this.

First, we’ll make sure you have the correct capabilities on your account.

Event Espresso -> Maintenance -> Reset/Delete Data.

Click ONLY the ‘Reset Event Espresso Capabilities’.

Same issue?

I completed the reset capabilities, but getting the same options on the edit event screen options tab.

https://share.getcloudapp.com/qGuqrxD2

I think the broken venue image/link is because of the domain mismatch between my live and staged URLs.

I completed the reset capabilities, but getting the same options on the edit event screen options tab.

Yeah, very strange!

Can I take a look in the admin? (Staging is fine, just anywhere I can reproduce)

Hi there,

I’ve just started looking into this but it looks like the site is already throwing a fatal so I can’t log in.

Can you check into this please?

Hmm, ok. So it looks like there is an issue with the new ‘Advanced Editor’ on your site.

In Event Espresso -> Events -> Default Settings (tab) you’ll find the ‘Activate Advanced Editor?’ option.

Set that to ‘Legacy Editor’ and it will switch back to the editor from EE4, which shows your Ticket/Datetime and Venue again.

I’ll do some digging into this.

Scratch that, found the problem, it’s the date format in use on the site:

l, F j, Y |

is not considered valid, the pipe (|) at the end isn’t a valid format so it throws an error which then prevents the editor from loading.

I’ll create a ticket for our developers to investigate.

Thank you Tony! I’ll be on the lookout for the patch in the near future. Meanwhile, the legacy editor is allowing me to administer ticketing section.
