WP 3.5.1
EE Version 3.1.30.7P
members Version 1.9.6
multi Version 1.0.4
permissions Version 1.5.3
ticketing Version 2.0.9
Upgraded/3/21
Is there a way to use a PC or Mac to check-in with instead of using the iphone or ipad and their respective apps? I don’t want to give admin access to workers at the conference though.

Hi,

There isn’t a way to scan the QR codes with a PC or Mac, but you can mark each attendee as attendee by pulling them up in the dashboard. If you are using the Roles and Permissions add-on, you can grant certain user roles access without granting full admin access.

I requested more documentation because the Roles and Permissions (Basic) directions are not getting me where I need to go,but haven’t received it yet.
1.I want to know how to set roles and permissions up to work like the apps on a PC, where the people checking in don’t have access to create/delete events, edit payments. They are just checking to see if the person is registered and checking them in. Is there another role in EE besides EE_admin perhaps?
2.I have not set up the API is there a difference between Json and espresso-api-pr, (which I got from my dashboard)?
3.Also I am the only one able to download the excel or csv files — Is this also a permission issue?

As far as I know, the iphone app does not let you create/delete events, etc. It only lets you scan tickets for the event.
The Json API is required for the ipad app, the espresso-services API is required for the iphone and android app.

Sidney thanks for clarifying my 2nd question: that Json api is different from espresso-api-pr. But I don’t see Json in the pre-release channel downloads. Can you send me a link? And just to clarify Json still has to be done through FTP?

About question 1:Johnathan had said

> If you are using the Roles and Permissions add-on, you can grant certain user roles access without granting full admin access[to wordpress, I assume he means].

I am asking if I could configure EE to act the same on the PC as the mobile apps do.

Also question 3 was not addressed yet — can you think of any reason I can why the other wp-admin on the site can’t download the CSV files?
Do they have to be espresso_admin?

Hi there,

But I don’t see Json in the pre-release channel downloads. Can you send me a link?

It’s in the yellow box on your account page labeled:

Event Espresso API v2.0.1.B

And just to clarify Json still has to be done through FTP?

It’s actually a plugin that you can install like any other WP plugin.

I am asking if I could configure EE to act the same on the PC as the mobile apps do.

Not currently possible to configure Event Espresso to work like a mobile app. The API could be used to build an application like this though.

Also question 3 was not addressed yet — can you think of any reason I can why the other wp-admin on the site can’t download the CSV files?
Do they have to be espresso_admin?

If the roles and permissions is active, the other admin will only be able to access CSV entries for events they’ve created. If you want both admins to have access to all the events, you can deactivate the roles and permissions add-on.

Thanks Josh –
For anyone reading this in the future:(as of 4/5/2013)

Where to find JSON ADDON?: Json API is on the pre-rellease channel listed as Event Espresso API v2.0.1.B, it downloads as espresso-api-pr.zip

If anyone is having problems downloading the Excel or CSV files check out this thread: Excel downloading issues — troubleshooting.

In case you’re wondering what the pr means at the end of the file name is, it stands for pre-release. Which means the API isn’t “officially” released yet. We’re looking into different options on how to include the newer add-ons that are being developed so they’re easier to find.
