Hi,
I’m having a bit of trouble understanding the relationship between Users and Contacts in EE4.

I was told here that EE Registrants and WP Users are not supposed to be one and the same: https://eventespresso.com/topic/wp-user-integration-bug-registrants-not-exporting/

We have WP Users Integration add-on for EE4.

We also have PaidMemberships Pro to manage our memberships and roles for those memberships.

On our site it should be theoretically possible that someone is a member, but has never registered for, or attended an event.

But when we do a bulk import of users, regardless of their user role, they are ending up in the “Contacts” list of EE4, even if they have never registered for an event.

Can you tell us how to avoid this? It just doesn’t seem logical to me that if we are trying to reach the contacts of our events, that that would include all the WP Users on our site.

BUT – if someone registers for an event, we do have it set that they create a user account. That’s expected. Those people should be in the “Contact List.”

And we do also have it set that certain ticket types are available to certain roles. That’s ok. Some of those roles are membership roles. They can be in the “Contact List.”

But the Contact list in EE should only be the contacts of event registrants, past and present, no?

How can we stop all WP Users from being in our “Contact list” in EE?

Can you confirm: If we manually remove them from the “Contact List” area of EE4, will that delete them as WP users too?

Thanks for your help,

Josh

Hi Johanna,

The key to figuring out what’s going on may be the script you’re using to bulk import WordPress user accounts. Normally a bulk import of WP User accounts will not also import EE contacts. EE contacts are normally only created when a registration is made for an event.

If we manually remove them from the “Contact List” area of EE4, will that delete them as WP users too?

No it will not.

We are using Import Users from CSV plugin (not Import Users from CSV with Meta)

Does that shed any light?

https://wordpress.org/plugins/import-users-from-csv/

I know this is an outdated plugin but it was the only one that would work with PaidMemberships Pro because they have an add-on for it.

But the users in our Contact List were imported before trying the PM Pro Add-on, so I don’t think it has to do with that.

I’ve used that same plugin before and did not see any of the imported user accounts automatically get added as contacts. So no that does not shed any light. How are you able to verify that a new imported user is also being added as an Event Espresso contact? Did you test a single user account import then check for a new contact?

Hi Josh, this is definitely happening.

I just moved all contacts to the trash.

(I can’t remove them by the way, which is problematic for us, since we need to start fresh with our users on the site)

I imported the file using the plugin and PM Pro add-on

All imported users turned into Contacts in Event Espresso.

I tried it again, except this time deactivated the PM Pro add-on and the same thing happened.

Can you please help us solve this?

WP, Theme and all plugins are up to date

We have:
EE4
WP Users Add-on for EE4
LearnDash
LearnDash EE4 integration
Paid Memberships Pro

That could be relating to this. (Other plugins are on the site, but I’m not listing them all)

Thank you.

You deactivate the WP Users add-on, (you can leave Event Espresso active), then run your import, then reactivate WP Users.
