Hi Guys,

I’ve just gone to update EE for this client, and got different errors for the plugin to fail –
http://screencast.com/t/p29z0nsq1kg
http://screencast.com/t/jYUsDIrzHCW

I’ve deleted EE plugin on the server, as per Garth’s recommendation – eventespresso.com/topic/upgraded-ee3-to-version-3-1-36-5-p-plugin-fails-to-load/

Can someone explain, or look into what has gone wrong please?

Currently no EE in operation, needs fixing asap.

Let me know if you need login credentials.

Thanks.

Hi Ben,

Is this a Windows Server or Linux?

Have you fully deleted EE from the server and re-uploaded?

Thanks Tony.

Not sure on server type, as the client has taken care of the hosting.

I have fully deleted the EE folder from the server so no longer in the plugins folder. I’ve then re-uploaded the .zip file through WP, and it gets stuck in the uploads folder with the variety of errors each time displayed above. I’ve also tried un-zipping the folder and uploading the files straight into the plugin folder, but no joy on both counts.

Thanks.

The issues your screenshots show are likely permissions issues.

What errors are shown when you FTP the files straight to the plugins folder?

Just reuploaded EE, and no error from the FTP. Except when I activate the EE plugin with this error – http://screencast.com/t/IGOQrXC8x

That is a different error again, this time referring to the .ical icon.

Have you tried downloading a fresh copy of EE from your account page and uploading that?

There’s a couple of possible reasons.

The .zip file you have currently could be corrupt/damaged so lets start there.

Re-download and re-try either through the dashboad or via FTP.

I suspect there’s an issue with the server, but we’ll start with what we can do.

Hi Ben,

From your screenshots it looks like the site is having some trouble with some permissions.

Could you try downloading and installing this plugin through WordPress admin –> Plugins:

http://cl.ly/1f3T293e1g0j

Does it also fail to activate?

Thanks Lorenzo/Tony.

My client managed to update EE in the end but we are now getting this error on the event registration page? – http://screencast.com/t/VESXHy1uyO0
The version of EE is now – 3.1.36.4.P
Do you advise to try the automatic update through WP to 3.1.36.5.P, as my client has now updated WP to 3.8.1, previously 3.6.

Thanks.

Just to add the only thing that has been changed is a new invoice template in the uploads folder. Previous customisation was already in place and working great.

Thanks.

It appears error reporting is active on the site. Has WP_Debug been enabled?

Do you advise to try the automatic update through WP to 3.1.36.5.P, as my client has now updated WP to 3.8.1, previously 3.6.

WP 3.8.1 or 3.9.1? 3.9.1 being the latest version of WordPress.

Without knowing the cause of the issue its impossible to be able to say if the update will work correctly. If there is an issue with the server that’s has not been corrected then it is very possible to the same will happen.

In either case I would start by making a full site backup, we have a guide posted here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-back-up-your-site/

Previous customisation was already in place and working great.

Can you provide some more details on the previous customisation?

Thanks Tony,

I did a full back up using back up buddy, updated EE, and worked first time on the WP 3.8+version. I think the problem yesterday had to be because of the older WP version.

The error was still appearing after the update, but I had a look at the registration_page.php it was referring to on line 259, in reference to the members add on. I’ve just deactivated the members add on, and the error has now disappeared. Luckily, the members plugin is not required, but I think there could be a bug there with the latest EE and the members add on plugin.

Thanks.
