1) Is this a new merchant account from PayPal? If so, ensure that your account has been approved for production and that you are not using “testing” credentials.
1b) Next, check your required form fields in your merchant account. We have seen newer accounts have certain fields such as the Company Name set to required. Event Espresso does not use this field by default so this causes the order to decline.
2) Double-check your credentials and be careful of extra spacing before or after them. This can occur from copying and pasting them.
3) If both of the steps above do not help, then reset your API credentials again and update those into Event Espresso payment settings and save changes.
PayPal also requires a separate billing agreement for American Express. If all cards except for AMEX are working, then that is the cause.
Regarding the email, that should be the email for your PayPal account.
Are you using Paypal Pro or Standard (and using the relevant gateway for the correct account)?
