Hi,

I acquired a client which is running Event Espresso + some plugins on his website for subscriptions on a couple of events.

The list of plugins currently used:

Event Espresso: 3.1.21.P
Event Espresso – MailChimp Integration: 1.0.2
Event Espresso – Members Addon: 1.9
Event Espresso – Recurring Events: 1.1.4
Event Espresso – Social Media: 1.1
Event Espresso – SSL/HTTPS: 1.0

Since I almost have no experience with Event Espresso I would really appreciate any guidance available on how I can safely, without loosing stability and functionality upgrade this versions to their newest equivalents.

Too me it looks like the Business license should have all used modules contained within it but I am missing any reference to the packages:

Event Espresso – SSL/HTTPS
Event Espresso – Members Addon

Also I just saw a note regarding Event Espresso 4.
Is it safe to upgrade to this version or does 3 have the preference over 4 in this case?

Any indications would be much appreciated.

Best,
Mark

Hi Mark,

See here – https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/

Updating from that version should be OK, but remember to BACK EVERYTHING UP. Do a full database backup. Just make sure if anything does go wrong you can revert.

Make sure that there are no active events. Old event data may not be available to your client, so if they need it, export it prior to updating (it won’t be removed but you may find the dashboard doesn’t show it.

If you update to the latest EE, you will need to make sure that your client is running at least WP 3.5 though of course we recommend keeping up to date with WP too.
Business licence is a good choice. Members = Wp User Integration add on. SSL/HTTPS we no longer support, please use a third party plugin such as WP HTTPS if you even need it.

Event Espresso 4 is out in Beta, and really it depends on your clients needs. Check out this blog post https://eventespresso.com/2014/02/event-espresso-4-beta-officially-released/, specifically the Can I Use EE4 instead of EE3? section.

To reiterate though, there are no addons for EE4 currently though some addon functionality has been added into the core plugin, so you need to review what plugins the client uses.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Dean,

Thanks very much for your swift and thorough answer to my question, I really appreciate your effort! It’s not often you get this kind of response back on such an inquiry!

I have looked at the changelog of Event Espresso and had patched the current version running already a couple of times since WordPress has already been upgraded to the latest version… I just wanted an expert advice on how to proceed with Event Espresso 🙂

I will advice the client to purchase the business license and to go for EE3 for now.

Best,
Mark

No problem Mark, let us know if you need further assistance (ideally via the clients support licence account).
