After upgrading to WordPress 5.3, all the event times on our calendar changed to random times! Should I revert back to the previous WordPress version or is there a fix on the EE side? We have EE 3.1.37.14 |
|
Hi, We actually tested some sites with EE3 to check compatibility with WordPress 5.3 and did not see any issues with times changing. May I ask is the site timezone setting set to a nearby city in the WordPress Dashboard’s Setting > General page? |
|
|
We are experiencing the same problem and out Timezone setting is correct |
Hi, It looks like if the timezone setting is set to a city, then a timezone offset is applied if using WordPress 5.3. If you can switch the timezone setting in WP > Settings > General to use a UTC timezone like UTC -5 (for EST) then no offset is applied. If you change the timezone setting to a UTC equivalent does that correct the times? |

|
Thanks Josh that worked |
Yes that worked for me too. Thank you! |

Yes setting the timezone to utc+x seems to work but the current time as shown when you edit an event is then showing UTC time without the offset. So currentime is wrong. So basically setting UTC+0 or UTC+8 in general settings has the same effect. It looks like it fixes the bug but it does not really. Everything just assumes Greenwich UTC. So if you put registration end time 1.00pm in Australia Perth (which is UTC+8) it will accept registration until 9.00pm instead of 1.00pm. |
Hi, Feel free to download and install this branch of 3.1.37.15.P that includes a fix: https://github.com/eventespresso/event-espresso-legacy/archive/BUG/wp53-datetimes.zip |
|
Update: The fix is included in the latest release of EE3. Event Espresso 3.1.37.15.P. It’s available to download from your account page. Or you can go to your site’s Plugins page and run the 1-click update there. |

Hey Josh! Thank y’all for jumping on this so quickly. I don’t see the one-click update showing up in my dashboard yet. Does that take a little while to show up? Currently I am on Version 3.1.37.14.P |
It can take a little while depending on your site’s schedule for checking for plugin updates. You can force the site to check for updates right now by going to your site’s Event Espresso > General Settings page, then click the button to Save Options. |

Ran upgrade and I’m now getting this error – There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions. |
We can advise further if you can share the error message here. |

This error message comes up when I try and update an event “There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.” |
That’s not an error message. The email may have a specific error message and/or you can check you server’s error log for the specific error message. |

Its not on an email it comes up when I select update in an event Event Overview There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions. Learn more about debugging in WordPress. |
The last sentence of the error message said to “Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.” That email, if you received it, will likely have more information about the error. If you did not get that email, it’s OK, we’ll have a fix for this issue in an upcoming release of EE3. It will released be soon. In the meantime, if you deactivate the Recurring events plugin, you’ll be able to go in and edit individual events as a workaround. |
|
Update: The fix for updating recurring events is included in the latest release of EE3. Event Espresso 3.1.37.16.P. It’s available to download from your account page. Or you can go to your site’s Plugins page and run the 1-click update there. |
