Upgrade failed and Event Espresso has gone

I tried to upgrade to the latest version 4.9.39. It failed and now Event Espresso has vanished from my site. Error message was:
The plugin event-espresso-core-reg/espresso.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

Please help!

I manually copied all the files from event-espresso-core-reg.zip to the plugins folder. Now it works. Panic over, all good.

Hi there,

Just to give some further info on this (although I can’t tell you why the update failed from the above, it’s likely a permissions issue).

When you update a plugin on WP, it downloads the latest zip, deletes the current version of the plugin completely and then extracts the zip, which should replace the plugin. If there is an issue with the above you sometimes the plugin to be updated can be removed and the extraction fails, meaning the plugin now shows as unavailable.

Manually replacing the plugin via FTP or deleting the directory for the plugin (in this case event-espresso-core-reg and uploading the plugin through the plugin menu will usually fix it.

I had a similar experience when upgrading to the newest version. Will all of my plugin information (events, registration, etc.) be lost when re-uploading the plugin??

No because the events and registrations, etc are saved/stored in your website’s database. The plugin files don’t have your data.
