I am currently running EE version 3.x and wanted to do an update to take advantage of new features of 4.4.5. I understand there are significant differences in version 3 and version 4. Before I update I just wanted to make sure there wouldn’t be anything that didn’t transfer. Are there any potential issues I should be aware of before I pull the trigger?
As you rightly mentioned there are significant differences between EE3 and EE4.
If you are running at least EE3.1.36+ and have made no changes to the DB structure for Event Espresso then all of your attendee and event info should be transferred. (Confirmation emails will not as they are very different in EE4)
However due to the infinite combinations of Plugins and Themes users install we recommend creating a development copy of your site (if you don’t already have one) either locally or on the same server as your live site under a subdomain and upgrading EE4 there first. That way, we can work through any issues there may be on the dev site without disruption to your live site.
That may sound rather daunting and I just want to mention that most users have no issues when upgrading from EE3 to EE4 but on occasion migrations can and will go wrong so always better to be safe.
Have you tried EE4? You can do so using EE4 Test Drive to see if it suits your needs.
