Howdy folks!
Have tried most of the tips on the forums (caching, removing plugins, etc) but still get the error. Maybe related to the 4.3 update?

Thanks!

Hi there,

I just ran a test registration without issue, are you still having problems registering?

I get the same thing after update of wordpress and ee4. “this registration step could not be completed. Please refresh the page and try again”. when refreshing the page I get:
Fatal error: Can’t inherit abstract function EEI_Line_Item_Filter::process() (previously declared abstract in EE_Line_Item_Filter_Base) in /var/www/vhosts/laplatadenada.com/clubcafe/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/core/libraries/line_item_filters/EE_Line_Item_Filter_Base.class.php on line 17. I have debugging on.

If at all possible, can you please update to PHP 5.3.9 or higher? Event Espresso 4 has a warning message in the admin if the PHP version is lower than PHP 5.3.9, and it turns out the bug you report here was a PHP bug that was fixed back in 2011:

https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=43200

Server is at 5.3.3 of PHP. Chances of updating it quickly are probably out of the question however.

What would a fallback option be? Downgrade EE back to 4.7.* or WordPress 4.2.*? Didn’t see these issues before the upgrades and wondering which one broke it.

Mine is at 5.3.3 also. I’m in the same boat and would also like to know which one broke it. My live site isn’t updated yet.

Running an old version of PHP is the cause of breakage, because it’s a bug in your version of PHP.

If you cannot update to a semi-current version of PHP anytime soon, you can temporarily use the Master branch of Event Espresso 4 which includes a change from about 20 minutes ago that works around the PHP bug. We’ll push an update to our plugin library soon as well. You can download a copy of the Master branch here:

https://github.com/eventespresso/event-espresso-core/archive/master.zip

Please note that we can’t guarantee that other PHP bugs that have since been fixed since PHP 5.3 was declared end of life will not affect future versions of Event Espresso, so please re-consider updating to a newer version of PHP.

The Master branch version seems to be working for the time being.

Thanks for the quick support!

Hi Bryce,

There is also an update available (4.8.3) so you can remove the master branch copy and install 4.8.3 to allow for automatic updates down the road.

Please also contact your host about updating to a newer version of PHP. It turns out that PHP 5.3.3 is not only buggy but also insecure, and we’ll all feel better knowing that your site is more secure.
