I recently tried to update Event Espresso based on the plugin indicating an update was required. It completed with an error and put my site into maintenance mode. Removed the .maintenance file and my site said it was in a state of error. Removed the .maintenance.off file and it came back to life, but Event Espresso is not functioning.

I attempted to download and install the latest version of .zip and it failed. I have uploaded the event-espresso-core-reg folder from a recent backup.

I am using EE4. My site now at least recognizes that Event Espresso is installed as a plugin (Version 4.10.40.p), but it does not have the Event Espresso functionality nor is the Menu showing up on my Administration site.

Do I now have to start over with a new db after activation? Or is there a way to reconnect Event Espresso to my prior ee db?

No.

Or is there a way to reconnect Event Espresso to my prior ee db?

The EE db, is your site own database. We use custom post types so wp_posts and then our own custom tables using the post id as the foreign key.

So in short, all of your data is stored on your own site, as long as you haven’t drop DB tables from your site that should all be there.

I’m not sure whats happening above, but first, lets see if you can get back to a functioning EE install.

On your site, go to {domain}/wp-admin/admin.php?page=espresso_maintenance_settings

Do you see a page like this:

https://monosnap.com/file/jHacEysjxYoYoGa523oVO7jl4Ggcfb

Click on Reset Event Espresso Capabilities ONLY

(Other functions on that page will remove data from your site, so be sure you click on the correct button)

Does EE show in your admin menu again then?
