Had an update today and it failed on the live site. And now the site is down. Would there be any issue copying the event espresso folder from plug ins on development which is working to the live site? The error is error 500.

You could do that and there might not be an issue, but the quickest and recommended way to fix this is FTP in, delete the broken event-espresso-core-reg folder, and install a fresh copy that you can download from you account page (it’s a zip file) then head over to your WP > Plugins page and install the new zip file.

You’ll need to FTP in because you can’t access the WordPress dashboard. Or use the C-panel file manager to delete the partially installed event-espresso-core-reg folder. Once you do that, you’ll have access to the WP dashboard again.

Would installing or copying the core plug in have any effects on my current registrations?

Zero effect.
