I’ve been using Event Espresso for a number of years on http://www.aavp.org/ without issue. A few days ago, I found the site completely crashed … no page content at all would load and backend access was also non-functional.
After disabling plug-ins one at a time, I found that the Event Espresso plug-in was the culprit. Re-installing Event Espresso didn’t solve the issue. I brought the site back online by restoring from the prior days back-up and manually re-entering a few recent site changes followed by a new backup. All was seemingly good but after 12 to 24 hours, the site crashes again. I now getting good at disabling Event Espresso by FTP and restoring the site from back-up then reinstalling Event Espresso just to be sure nothing corrupted is carrying forward.
Unfortunately, I’ve done that three times now but the site won’t stay up for even 24 hours.
I suspected database issues since I was making no changes and have found a few new spam event registrations since restoring the site each time. I’ve removed those entries in wp_event_attendee and wp_event_attendee_meta using PHPmyAdmin but the site won’t come back live after those database deletions. Perhaps I’m not finding everything that’s changed in the database?
Since I have had no luck restoring the site to continual health, I currently have the Event Espresso plug-in directory renamed which allows the site to function with no event registration functionality.
Nothing has changed in the site in months in terms of themes or plug-ins (except normal updates).
