WordPress 3.8.1, new install running Event Espresso Version 3.1.36.4.P
I have created a Paypal sandbox account & configured basic EE as per documentation. I go to event-registration page, register event, go to Paypal & ‘pay’.
Paypal then gets stuck & won’t return to site. I have set up a IPN return URL on the Sandbox ‘profile – IPN’ page.
Paypal says it’s sending an email to payee, but I am not receiving anything.
EE ‘thank you’ page not returned to.

Hi Dee,

Can you link us to the event page so we can take a look please?

Hi Dee,

I checked the setup and ran a registration, then made a sandbox payment and it all looks good from here. One thing you’ll need to do when testing the PayPal sandbox is log in with a PayPal Sandbox account when you get to the PayPal page. Alternatively you can set the PayPal account settings to “PayPal Account Optional” where you can pay with a test credit card number.

When you go into your PayPal account you’ll find some settings under Profile > My Selling Tools > Website Preferences. If you scroll down about 2/3 of the way down the page there is a setting that’s labeled “PayPal Account Optional”. You’ll want to set this to “On”. and then save.

Then, when you go to pay with PayPal it will display an option to pay by credit *if* you’re not already logged into PayPal -or- if there aren’t any cookies in your browser from the last time you were logged into PayPal.com. You may need to switch browsers or go into a private browsing mode to get the pay by credit card option to appear if you’ve logged into PayPal.com recently.

Hi Josh, thanks, that was very helpful. Now I can pay & return to the site. But, no confirmation email is being sent to me, even though ’email confirmation’ it has been requested in the event itself and I created an email inside there. Any ideas?

You may want to turn off the “Bypass Payment Overview Page” option in your EE->payment settings->paypal settings. I just tried a test registration, and when I was returned to the thank you page, it immediately redirected me back to paypal.

Sidney, the email confirmation I was looking for was the ‘Payment Received’ email from EE to the registrant. I discovered that they were failing to be sent due to web hosting company’s mail server setup. Switched to SMTP & all well now. Up & running now, thanks
