Hello, I’m trying to activate two plugins: Event Espresso, Event Espresso – Promotions (EE 4.9.10+). Clicking on “Activate” appears to be a “no op”.

I’m using chrome browser, any other info you need?

Already active plugins:Event Espresso – Ticketing (EE 4+), Event Espresso – WP Users (EE4.6+)

thanks Walt

What happens when you try to activate Event Espresso core? Is there an error message?

Hello Garth, somehow I lost this thread and couldn’t reply (duh) to “noreply@ee” – I see your questions in the email response.

Nothing appears to happen (after I click on Activate) – The page refreshes but the plugins still show “Activate”

Here’s the 1st link. https://calthoracic.org/wp-admin/plugins.php?action=activate&plugin=event-espresso-core-reg%2Fespresso.php&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s&_wpnonce=ac3b89941c
2nd link. https://calthoracic.org/wp-admin/plugins.php?action=activate&plugin=eea-promotions%2Feea-promotions.php&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s&_wpnonce=74dc7ac0cd

fyi The backend tables are all still full of data from our last event in March 2023. I only noticed one of the website’s pages showing a shortcode “[ESPRESSO_MY_EVENTS ]” and not the intended content which lead me to see the un activated plugins

Hi there,

I’ve merged your 2 threads together to keep everything flowing in one place.

Generally, when that happens it means there is a fatal error being thrown and WordPress is preventing the activation. But it should also show you a message at the top of the plugin list with details of the error being thrown.

Is there nothing at all displayed above the plugin list table after you click activate on Event Espresso itself?

Which specific version number of Event Espresso is installed?

hey thanks, I see it now. Looks I need to update php version.

We’re sorry, but Event Espresso requires PHP version 7.4.0 or greater in order to operate. You are currently running version 7.2.24.

any workarounds in the meantime? At the moment this is not critical.

thanks, walt

So that means you’re using EE5.X.X as it requires PHP7.4.0+

If you can’t/don’t want to update PHP right now you could reinstall EE4.10.46 for the time being. I want to be clear that staying on that version should be considered temporary as eventually the add-ons will start to require EE5 and start to deactivate if you don’t have it.

Are you ok with using that version for the time being?

For now it’s ok, I’m waiting to see when my php can be updated.
My EE is Version 5.0.3.p
Event Espresso – Promotions (EE 4.9.10+) is Version 1.0.16.p
Event Espresso – Ticketing (EE 4+) is Version 1.0.11.p
Event Espresso – WP Users (EE4.6+) is Version 2.0.19.p

Hello Garth,
I’m just waiting for the PHP to be updated – haven’t heard back yet.
IN the meantime, if I were to switch back to 4.10.xx, will this interfere with already existing backend data? Otherwise, I’ll wait for php upgrade.
thanks, Walt

No.

There IS a migration that will have ran when/if EE5 was activated but that may not have happened if your server wasn’t using PHP7.4+ previously anyway.

That migration updates a value used for venue assignments so what may happen is any new events you create whilst using 4.10.46 from this point may need their venue reassigned in the admin when you switch over to EE5 again.

Its not really changing the backend data, but in EE5 we saved the venues assignments in a different location, the migration reads the ‘old’ values, sets them in the ‘new’ location. But that migration will only run once, so ifs its been ran it will have set up your current events.
