I want to be able to create two different events on the calendar with different colors (categories) that share the same seats.
We list a pediatric CPR class and a regular CPR class at the same time and place. they are the same class, just different certification cards (government thing)
When a client looks at the calendar, they see both classes listed. They select the class they want the certification card to reflect. Once the register we want ti to subtract the ticket from both listed events.

Hi Kevin,
EE doesn’t have the ability to link to separate events together and subtract ticket sales from both of those events based on a sale in either.
However, you can have 2 datetimes within a single event (One Pediatric CPR and one for Regular CPR) and then 2 tickets, both linked to both datetimes (sales from either ticket then apply to both datetimes).
The calendar will show the 2 instances (because there are 2 datetimes) and when the user clicks on either of those instances they go to the main event page which lists both tickts, they will then need to select the correct ticket they are wanting to register onto.
The part of your requirements that does not work with the above is showing only one of those datetimes in a different colour as you set categories on the events themselves, not the datetimes, but that is the only way to have ticket sales linked across 2 ‘instances’ of an event.
