Today my client and I set up the PayPal Pro payment option and tested it on our EE Business install, using his (other) credit card to complete a transaction through the shopping cart of Event Espresso. Bit embarrassed as once credit details were entered and the “Complete Purchase” button was pressed nothing happened for a long time then Safari said it couldn’t open the next page. Not great. In the Event Overview the record shows the event as unpaid! The clients PayPal account showed no money. However, the trial email we used was sent an automated email saying the event had been paid for!!!! So not just not working but working AGAINST us.
Please help.

Hi Christopher,

It sounds like the PayPal ID that was entered in Event Espresso>General settings may not have been entered correctly. Also, please check and confirm that the default payment status is set to either incomplete or pending.

Also, with the email that was sent, what was the exact wording of the message that indicated the event had been paid for? The default email message that Event Espresso doesn’t have a message that says an event has been paid for.

Will double check the PayPal id.
The email says
**This is an Automated reponse from *our site name – Do not reply***
Thank you
We have just received a payment in the amount of £10 for your registration to our event name

Transaction ID
Please print this page for your records

I’ve removed personal info here though the transaction id was actually blank.
The email worries me the most as it gives any customer the wrong impression.

Thanks for you prompt response

Hi Christopher,

That sounds like the payment email. Which shouldn’t get sent unless there is a payment notification received from your site. So the first step in sorting this out is to make sure that the correct information is filled out in the Event Espresso>Payment Settings.

Also, there is a default payment status that can be set globally in Event Espresso>General settings. This should be set to incomplete or pending. It should not be set to completed when you use a payment gateway option like PayPal. The default payment status can be overridden for specific events, so it would be good to check within the event editor and make sure the default payment status isn’t to to completed there too.

Hi Josh

In the payment settings I have added the relevant API generated on my PayPal account. However, I am using PayPal Business rather than PayPal Pro. Would this be the problem? Can you recommend any payment method supported by EE, that accepts cards, works in the UK and is free?

I’m not aware of any payment processors that are free.

In this case, it sounds like incorrect information was entered in the PayPal settings. If you’re not using PayPal Pro, the PayPal Pro option should be deactivated. Where it asks you for the PayPal ID under PayPal Settings, you need to make sure it’s the PayPal ID that’s entered there. This will be the same ID you use when you log into the PayPal account.
