I am seeing the EE3 app in the apple itunes store but it says the developer needs to update the app to function in ios 11+. when will an update be released for this EE3 ios app? we rely on the EE3 app for scanning and upgrading to EE4 is not an option as it is missing features we need.

Hi Mike,
I’m afraid there are no plans to update the EE3 app for iOS. If you have an Android device the EE3 app for Android continues to work on the latest versions of Android OS.

Why is that support ending? Is this a sign that we should upgrade to EE4?

All new development is going into Event Espresso 4 and its compatible add-ons and apps. The Event Espresso 3 iOS app was built before 64-bit apps were even possible (iOS devices did not have 64-bit processors yet). They decided not to rewrite the app for EE3 because the app for EE4 is compatible with both 32 bit and 64 bit.
Somewhere along the way most sites will need to migrate to Event Espresso 4 because going forward only security fixes are going to be applied to Event Espresso 3. So for example when WordPress 5.0 is available with the new Gutenberg interface, Event Espresso 4 will have compatibilty with Gutenberg, but Event Espresso 3 will not.
