We have 3 events in Oregon (no sales tax) and 3 events in Washington (8.4% sales tax). I clicked the “tax” box on each of my Washington tickets after setting my default tax rate to 8.4% and the tax is applied correctly thought every step of the process, except when I get to Paypal, the tax is not part of the total. It may be that I have a Oregon address as my default shipping address in Paypal, but I need that every person who buys a ticket in Washington to be assessed sales tax. Please let me know what I need to do to correct this. This is my last step before going live– appreciate your help! |
Hi there, There’s a setting in Event Espresso > Payment Methods > PayPal Standard for “Paypal Calculates Taxes”. If you set this option to Yes, it will ignore what’s set in the Event editor for taxes, and allow PayPal to add the tax you set in your PayPal account. This option works well if you need to charge tax based on the location of the buyer’s shipping address. e.g. Their shipping address is in Washington and you need to charge tax regardless of the venue of the event. Conversely, if you set “Paypal Calculates Taxes” to No, then it will pass along the tax set in the Event editor for everyone, regardless of their shipping address. Hope that helps! |

What you described is not what is happening. I added a $50 ticket to my cart and it added tax: And then when I chose to check out at Paypal, the tax is now gone. I have a paypal with an Oregon address and it seems to be interfering (which you said shouldn’t happen if I add taxes directly into EE4) Please advise. |
Did you check the setting in Event Espresso > Payment Methods > PayPal Standard for “Paypal Calculates Taxes”? If that’s set to Yes, what you’re seeing is expected. I mentioned this before, but it bears repeating: If you set this option to Yes, it will ignore what’s set in the Event editor for taxes, and allow PayPal to add the tax you set in your PayPal account. The thing to remember about taxes you set up in your PayPal account is it will only add the tax if the shipping address matches the state that has taxes set up. |

I was sure I had turned that feature under paypal standard to “NO” before I wrote but I must have forgotten to save it. That was the key. Really appreciate your time! |
