The systems was working great for months. Now my paid registrants keep showing up as TRANSACTION STATUS: ABANDONED but they completed their payment. I see their money in PayPal. They also appear as PANDING in the Registrations list. What happened? Everything was working great… help! |
Hi Markus, Can you tell us which version of Event Espresso you currently are using, and also which payment gateways are in use? This information will help us investigate. |
I just updated to the latest version. I’m using PayPal standard. |
Latest version of EE 4 |
I just checked and it’s EE Version 4.6.10.p |
Hi Markus, Do you have ‘Auto Return’ enabled within your Paypal Account? You can check this by logging into PayPal, then go to Profile -> Website Payment Preferences. Is ‘Auto Return’ enabled? |
I found the setting and turned it on. The problem I noted just started occurring. It has been working fine since June 2014. |
If you recheck the registrations now do they still have a Reg status of Pending and TXN status of Abandoned? |
I’ll have to wait until I get a new customer. Hopefully I’ll get one today. I’ll let you know. BTW, I also turned on: Payment Data Transfer (optional). Is that ok? Thanks, |
Event Espresso does not use PDT and can sometimes causes issues, so unless you are using it for something else I would disable it. If you are using the latest version of EE4 the Txn status should automatically update when the session expires or the IPN is received. Unless you have manually altered the registration since? |
Ok, I’ll turn it off and wait for the next registrant. I’ll let you know how it goes. BTW, all the registrants that have had the issue, ALSO show an orange shopping cart icon and orange REG DATE in OVERVIEW tab view. |
That means the Transactions status is ‘Abandoned’ and usually happens when the user did NOT return back to the site from PayPal, so they clicked to make a payment then closed the browser. Do you know which version you had installed previous to 4.6.10? The reason I ask is 4.6.8+ has a feature that updates the transaction once the IPN is received even if the user doesn’t return from the site. The Registration messages are then scheduled to sent up 60 mins from then. |

I’ve been updating EE as soon as the updates are available. How do I fix this? Thanks, |
Is there a setting in EE to fix this issue? |
Hi Markus, Do you have the WP Cron setting disabled via the wp-config.php file? If so, you’ll need to enable it. |
I don’t know. This issue just started. It’s been working fine since June. Doesn’t that imply it has been enabled? |
Checked wp-config.php. WP Cron enabled. |
I got money in PayPal for all of these recent registrants. |
Hi Markus, Can I take a look at some of these registrations? Registrations 301-298 are from before a fix was introduced for non returning payments. The two with the Green cart icons likely returned to the site from PayPal and therefore updated the transaction but I’d like to look over the other two. If so please send temporary log in details using this form: |
Hi Tony, yes, I’ll send you the login info now. Good news, I had a successful registration last night. Green shopping cart and status : approved. |
Hi Markus, I looked over your registrations and their transactions and checked the update log for Event Espresso. The current transactions (other than the latest one mentioned) were all made before Event Espresso was updated to include the fix for non-returning registrations so it is likely, the 2 that show as Green returned to the site and therefore updated the status, the other 2 did not. As you mention the latest transaction worked I would recommend monitoring this over the next few transactions to ensure all is working well. Did you manually approve the registrations yourself? |
Thnaks for having a look. No, I didn’t approve it manually. It was automatic so I’m very pleased. Hopefully it keeps humming along from now on! |
Great 🙂 If you do run into any issues just let us know. |

I think I’ve got an issue. I just got a new registrant. The ticket price is $125. PayPal shows he paid $100. His status is PENDING and shows a ticket price of $125. (I just registered as a test and was charged $125 as it was supposed to.) What gives? Help! |
Hi Markus, I also just ran a test registration, on being directed to PayPal the price was correct at $125. Has your ticket price ever been $100? If this full ticket price $125 or is $100 plus a price modifier or tax? (Within Event Espresso) |
It used to be $100, but I increased it in January. The good news is I just got another registration and it was perfect. Maybe I should just ignore this? maybe this was a PENDING person from when the price was $100? |
Hi Markus, If you launch an alternative web browser (for example, if you are using Opera, then try Chrome or Firefox), are you able to duplicate this issue? — |
