Hi, I’ve got a staging server running in parallel to redesign my website. I’ve put it on the .net domain verses the .com live version. Note the .net version of the site is NOT live and I’m only doing the redesign there. I was told by support I can use my existing license on it and it will work but it doesn’t work for updates. I did previously update a non core EE plugin and it would not allow me to upload it as the plugin was already installed. I had to uninstall and reinstall and therefore lost all my configuration on that plugin. As of today you release 4.10.1.p and I’d like to update EE core but I don’t want to lose data. What is the best way to do this?

Hi Joseph,

You shouldn’t have lost any configuration when you deleted the plugin. The plugins are made up of only files, and no database scripts are run when a plugin is deleted.

So what you’ll do is go to the staging site’s WP Plugins page, deactivate, then delete the EE4 core plugin. Then upload the zip file of the new version to the WP Plugins Add New > Upload page.
