HI,

For the last few months we have had infrequent error messages (“You need to select a ticket quantity before you can proceed” AND something about the “server”). Sometimes the tkt qty message can be seen randomly at the top of WP admin pages.

I’ve seen other posts about cache problems, but I don’t think I’m using a plugin that does that (possibly Jetpack Photon?).

We’ve been able to reproduce the issue that our attendees have had (again sporadically). Sometimes the error message will pop up and we can simply start over without a problem.

Thoughts?

Many thanks,
Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Can you post a link to the page where this is happening so we can take a look?

Thanks Josh,

We’ve had errors both before and after entering CC information. All in that “registration checkout” process.

Hi Marcus,

The “You need to select a ticket quantity before you can proceed.” error happens when the user fails to select a ticket quantity. They should be able to get past that screen if they select a ticket quantity and try again. Other errors (and if you see a specific error message, please make a note of the exact error) can be avoided if you can increase the amount of memory available for WordPress by following this guide:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

This will avoid potential errors with recording the registration data due to your server running low on memory.

Also, you can try the setting that encodes the registration session data. This can prevent fatal errors on some servers. You can set Event Espresso to encode session data by going to Event Espresso > General Settings > Admin Options and set Encode Session Data to Yes, then save. After you save this setting, it’s important to test submitting a registration form to make sure your server supports encoding data.

The weird thing with the ticket quantity error is it happens after they select tickets and then move on to the registration checkout pages. Then it happens either after entering their name and contact info or after having entered payment information.

I will try the fixes though!

Thanks

If they actually selected tickets but got the error later that’s an indication that the data that holds their ticket selection got highjacked or deleted by something. Does your host have, or is there a plugin activated on your site that routinely cleans up the transients from the wp_options table?

Our host is 1and1.
Plugins: https://www.dropbox.com/s/e1yzaxj1klu19j7/WP.Plugin.jpg?dl=0

I’m afraid I wasn’t savvy enough to implement the memory allocation change. Spent a little bit of time yesterday trying to read up on it, but I wasn’t the one who installed WordPress… I inherited it. So it’s a little foreign to me.

Many thanks Josh,
Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Someone will need to bump up the memory on your site, there’s enough plugins activated there to require more memory. The GZip Ninja Speed Compression is one you could try deactivating to see if the situation improves.

If you can complete the form on this secure page someone from EE staff can apply the memory bump, it takes about 2 minutes if you send the correct information.

Thanks to the EE Staff for the support!

I will try deactivating GZip and I’ve just completed the form.

Gratefully,
Marcus

Hi Marcus,

You actually will need to complete the form before we can bump the memory limit. The fields where you input “not sure” are the ones we use to get in to do that.

OK the memory limit is bumped to 256MB.

Hey Josh, I just had someone see the “Error: you need to select a ticket quantity” message today when I was helping them sign up for the event. It was after they entered credit card information and they were checking out. The error message popped up for about 5 or 6 seconds and then it disappeared and it proceeded to the confirmation page. The registration was in fact successful though.

Thanks

Hi Marcus,

This sounds like something on your server is caching the error message and displaying it for other people. While your list of plugins doesn’t appear to have anything caching related, some WP themes will add some caching, and caching is routinely done at the server level. Can you contact your host and ask if there is any caching set up there?
