We had our payment system go down on Friday 4/24 around mid-afternoon – our key appears to be working and is the same, but we’re still trying to find the source of the problem. Would this have anything to do with that?
We use Paypal to process our payments, on Friday 4/24, sometime in the mid-afternoon, they started not going through and it still wasn’t working Saturday evening. As far as we know no settings were changed. We had to put a temporarily down message up and restored it on Sunday evening and it seems to be working fine since then. I’ve been wondering if it was paypal all along, but haven’t been able to figure out what caused the outage. The only thing that wasn’t working was once the payment was submitted it would come up bad. I don’t remember the exact language.
Btw – we’ve also had the paypal incompletes problem that I saw in another thread. I would wonder if implementing a slight delay between the user submission and the redirect to the thank you page would solve the majority of issues. I don’t know if this is interrelated or not.
Although PayPal usually processes IPN messages immediately, IPN is not synchronized with actions on your website. Internet connectivity is not always 100% reliable and IPN messages can be lost or delayed. The IPN service automatically resends messages until the listener acknowledges them. The service resends messages for up to 4 days.
How were you planning on introducing a slight delay?
