Josh –
I was able to manually deactivate the EE Core plugin, which allowed me to get the site up and running.
Then, when I try to active the plugin from the Dashboard, it still gives me that same error on line 161.
Our php version is 5.4.43 (I know that the most recent stable version is 5.6)
Our WP version is 4.3.1 (and when I check, it says I’m up to date)
I looked at the code again, and I don’t see anything in the line above (i.e., line 160) that looks like it would be causing this error.
I’m trying to get my pre-reg open by Sunday 8am. But I’m not sure this is something we could solve over the phone.
Thoughts?

Hi there,
I split this into another topic so we can keep the communication clear between you, and between Adam.
There may be a bug specific to PHP 5.4.43 that’s choking on line 161. Here are two things you can try:
1) You can try changing line 161 to read as:
$psr4_loader = new \EventEspresso\Core\Psr4Autoloader();
2) If the above does not help, can you contact your host to see if they can update you a newer version of PHP?

Josh –
I tried changing the line as suggested, with no change in the error.
I will see if the host can update us, but we are now in the middle of running *this year’s* event, so I don’t want to do anything that jeopardizes our ability to run registration this weekend.
If we get some down-time tomorrow night, I’ll see what I can do with HostGator.
I’ll keep you posted with progress (or lack there-of)

RESOLVED! I updated the php version to 5.5, was able to activate the core plugin and it now is running fine.
Josh, thanks for the instructions on how to solve the problem.
