I have a week long workshop with over 49 classes and 32 speakers/instructors. How does EE users assign the ‘People’ to a workshop or event? Im using multiple events registration within one event and each workshop has a ticket created.

I have installed the People plugin and created my speaker profiles, but I can only assign the speakers to the main event and not the actual workshops/classes within the main event? I need to assign the people to the sub-event (datetime event). Is this possible? I would imagine I am missing something right?

Hi,

Actually, no you’re not missing something. The People add-on can only assign people to an event. It doesn’t have a way to assign someone to only a specific datetime within an event.

Okay, thanks. Is there a way to do this? I would imagine there are many workshops that run a similar event?

Most conference/workshops have speakers for each class/workshop…

Is there a support group with devs that have exp[erience working on EE websites?

Hi,

Usually what people do is they’ll set up an event for each workshop. The Multi Event Registration add-on allows for adding each workshop to the cart before checkout.

With regards to a group of devs making up a support group. I’m not aware of any groups that are led by developers, but you could join the EventSmart slack channel:

Thank you. So you think 49 individual classes setup as events is efficient and easy for the users to signup with? Will this allow users to add each workshop on the same page?

The event with datetime events setup works nicely, but we just need to add the people/teachers to each.

Are there any example you know of off hand that have several classes as individual events?

Easier yes, but maybe not as efficient. If you set the event listing option to show the ticket selector, they’ll be able to add to the cart all from the same page.

Another approach you could take would be to set up events for each workshop, for information purposes only. This way each event/workshop can have all the information including teachers, location, etc. You could disable registration for those and have the one event for registration only.

Thank you Josh. So I created 10 events to try a test your method out but I don’t see how to group all 10 events to one page and add all/some of the events to cart from same page? This does however let me assign the instructor to the event. Is there a shortcode I need to drop on a page to make this happen?

The easiest way to display the events on a single page is to add them to a category and use [ESPRESSO_EVENTS category_slug={event_slug}]

That will display a list of events and you can set the event list to include the ticket selector in Event Espresso -> Events -> Templates -> Event List Pages -> Display Ticket Selector.

That will allow the users to select a ticket and add it to the cart for each event they need.
