Hi, I recommend you remove the Espresso HTTPS plugin as it is no longer maintained. We recommend using a plugin such as WordPress HTTPS which should remove the majority of those Notices (the final 2 I’m not sure of) The ‘Sorry, there was a security error and your registration was not saved.’ is usually caused by caching, is there a caching plugin being run on the site? |
there is no cacheing program that i can find. i didn’t create this site, just recently inherited it and updated it from WP3.1. i’m not familiar with HTTPS plugins and want to make sure i do this right. our old settings were like this: http://imgur.com/7aFNVqX can you advise me how to best set up WordPress HTTPS? |
Hi, You would want to set your event registration page and your thank you page to https mode. Here are the slugs on a default install of Event Espresso: /event-registration/ They can be added to the settings for WordPress HTTPS. Be sure to save settings afterwards. — |
September 11, 2014 at 10:45 am i think ours is customized to just be /events/ but alas, even with all three of these listed in filters, i’m still getting the same error. also since installing WordPress HTTPS, my admin keeps asking for my password every several minutes. any ideas how i can fix? we have an event happening in 2 weeks and are in high marketing gear! thanks. |
September 11, 2014 at 11:03 am Hi, It is logging you out because you are switching from http to https and back. Secure your WordPress admin dashboard through WP HTTPS. — |
September 11, 2014 at 11:38 am oh thank goodness that’s not happening anymore. that was driving me bonkers. like i said, i know nothing of https. here’s a screenshot of my settings. i still get the same error when trying to register for an event. thanks so much for your help. |

September 11, 2014 at 12:26 pm hm. i disabled my theme and put it on a few of the default themes and got this: |

September 11, 2014 at 12:28 pm meant to add that i had only WordPress-https and eventespresso plugins on when i took that last screenshot. |

Hi, There appears to be some issues with your customized templates. Could you login to your WordPress site with an SFTP or FTP client and go to this location: wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates Temporarily rename the templates folder to templates1 or something else and this will deactivate those templates. Does the site then begin to work as expected? — |
almost? here’s a screenshot of the next step http://imgur.com/euSinjE,w37QALL#1 and the screen after that: http://imgur.com/euSinjE,w37QALL#0 i’m happy to offer a login if that makes it easier to help diagnose. i’ve only used your software for one event on another site. i’m a little out of my league! |
whoops, those are the same… this is the other one: http://i.imgur.com/w37QALL.png |

Hi, Your site is forcing debugging mode to be on along with debugging display. Turn that off with this macro: define('WP_DEBUG', false); if (WP_DEBUG) { define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true); define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', true); } It should go into your wp-config.php file and should replace any existing debugging macros. Next, you should be running the latest software & add-ons. If you aren’t sure, try backing up and removing all of the Event Espresso software. Then download the latest versions for Event Espresso 3 and upload and activate through WordPress plugins. Let us know if this helps. — |
well, i’ve been turning debugging on and off as i try to troubleshoot this issue and issues with WP4 and this old custom theme someone else wrote. putting this code in my wp-config file just hides the errors right? in the default theme the page does look better, but the issues are still there, right? i do need to be able to see what errors my system is throwing. ultimately i want to fix the theme she has. |
and yes, all my software is up to date. all updated within the last week. |
The wpdb notices will go away if you update to the latest beta of EE3 (3.1.37). You can download this from your account page *after* you click the box on your account page to opt in to the pre-release channel. Or if you set WP_DEBUG to log errors only, the WP notices will no longer display. |
i’m not sure that accomplishes what i need. that seems just like i’ll be hiding the errors that i’m trying to fix in the custom theme theme and plugins that are breaking after updating everything to WP4. are the errors that i was seeing in the checkout pages unrelated to ee? |
Hi there, Some points to be aware of: 1) Those are notices, and notices are not the same thing as errors. 2) The notices regarding the usage of wpdb prepare are from the way EE 3.1.36 and lower uses wpdb prepare. In 3.1.37, the use of wpdb->prepare has been updated, and if you update to 3.1.37 these notices will no longer be thrown because adjustments were made to how EE 3 uses wpdb->prepare. |
ok. thank you. is there a way to just turn off the notices? when will the next version be out of beta? we are already on shaky ground here. ๐ |
Hi, You would need to turn display debugging off: You can’t selectively show notices or warnings or errors. We are looking to progress EE4 out of beta later this year. — |
ok. they’re still on 3 anyway. is there a nice migration article? |
Hi Greg, Please consider logging notices instead of displaying them. You can make this happen by setting the following in you wp-config.php file:
The above will log notices to a debug.log file to your wp-content directory. Along with that, if you want to look into updating to ee4, please read this guide: https://eventespresso.com/differences-ee4-ee3/ Alternatively, EE 3.1.37.p is currently in beta while we finish up polishing a few of its new features. It’s stable and will be ready to release very soon. |
