I’m just testing out Event Espresso, but I was able to “trick” the registration process way too easily. I figure there is a solution I’m not aware of.
I created an event with 3 tickets, viewed it, selected quantity “3”, clicked “Register Now”, then pressed “Back” on my browser. It’s now labeled “Sold Out”. There was also no saved session info that allowed me to “Continue Registration”.
After reading other support forum conversations, I’ve learned that “Reservations” are cleared after some time passes. Why is this? If I have heavy traffic on my site and multiple people are all signing up in the same time window, Event Espresso seems easily fooled – too eager to label something as Sold Out, and then unable to correct itself in time to capture those who will go beyond Reserving to actually Purchasing.
Is there any way to set the “decrement availability” function to trigger upon Purchase rather than Reservation?
Thanks for the help. Really like how many great options this plugin has.
There isn’t actually a way to set the “decrement availability” function to trigger upon Purchase rather than Reservation. The event can oversell if you decrement availability upon purchase. That’s what Event Espresso used to do, and it was a problem. The reason being is because the site can receive multiple payment submissions at the same time, especially when using an off-site payment methods like PayPal, Cybersource, even Stripe. This scenario opens up the potential for race conditions where the event will oversell.

The time allows people to complete their registrations form & payment steps. If they don’t complete the steps within 1 hour, the ticket gets released back to inventory.
