Hi
I would like to show the upcoming events in a slider on my homepage…

You recommend the featured article Pro slider which is a premium Plugin or the free version cant handle custom post types…
so are there any news on this? or any free plugins you can recommend? is it possible with revolution slider?

ok played around with rev slider and its really easy to set up an slideshow with custom post types in rev slider… also the design of the slider is very easy to … here is great video by theme punch to set up an rev slider for custom post types…
