Site: sunera.com We’ve had event espresso running our events calendar for years. This morning, for some reason, it stopped displaying the events list and instead publicly displays our shortcode. You’ll see it about 2/3 of the way down the page linked above. Before I restore the site to an automatic backup from yesterday, any clue what could cause the sudden breakdown? We made no changes to the plugin, its settings, or the shortcode today. Event pages, like this one (https://sunera.com/event-registration/?ee=231), display fine. It’s just our event lists that have stopped working. Running EE version 3.1.36.2.P and WP version 4.2.2. |
Hi there Casey, there appears to be a typo on the shortcode. Could you change: EVENT_LIST_EL to EVENT_LIST https://eventespresso.com/wiki/shortcodes-template-variables/#event-list If this is actually a custom shortcode that was created by editing the core plugin, then it may have broken when you updated Event Espresso 3 as this removes the existing plugin folder and replaces it with a new copy of the plugin. — |

Thanks for your help Lorenzo. When I change the shortcode to EVENT_LIST, it posts the full event description for every event (see this page as an example: https://sunera.com/data-analytics/training/). Previously, our shortcode (likely custom) generated a table of upcoming events, showing the name and date of each event, but no description, location, etc. Is there a built-in shortcode for displaying a list like that, without showing the full event description? |
Hi Casey, If you go to Event Espresso -> Template Settings. You’ll find the option ‘Display short descriptions in the event listings?’ Is that set to Yes? If so change it to No and save the settings. You will also find a setting for the Address information for the event on that page to – ‘Display addresses in the event listings?’ |

That’s better, but still pretty clunky. We were using a custom shortcode that displayed our upcoming events in a nice, clean table. Somehow, those customizations were erased. It’s odd, because we didn’t update the plugin or make any other changes yesterday – it just dropped off. |
It depends on where your customisation/template was stored and how it was done, although if you didn’t update they should just randomly disappear. Have you ran any security plugins recently? (Some security scans do not line .php file within the uploads directory and remove them, losing custom templates) |
