We have a Cloud VPS Server with 16gb Ram. Recently, we were shocked to get cpanel alerts saying that memory was maxed and services like php were shutting down.

We traced the source to redzonegames.com which runs EE on our server. They are in their heaviest registration time of the year:

This was the finding (what can we do to prevent this from happening when traffic continues at that site and other sites? Currently developing 3 other sites with EE)

Hello,

From the servers logs located in: /usr/local/apache/domlogs/

Following the highest POSTs in the redzonegames site, it looks like once someone is logged into https://www.redzonegames.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=espresso_transactions, the plugin used on this page constantly refreshes when a user is on this uri. I recommend checking that plugin, or try to disable any plugin that may be related to that uri to check as that is the highest usage on the server when active. It refreshes constantly, causing a high memory / resource usage.

Commands used: (cd /usr/local/apache/domlogs/ && for i in find ./*/ -maxdepth 1 -type f | grep -v “ftp_log";do for x in cut -d” " -f1 $i;do echo $x” “$i;done;done;cd -) | sort | uniq -c | sort -nr | head -25

cat /usr/local/apache/domlogs/joecap1/redzonegames.com | grep 74.5.100.9

I think you’ll need to investigate what’s causing the transactions page to refresh. Can you check to see if there’s a plugin that’s designed to work with the WordPress Heartbeat API, that might be forcing that or other scripts to reload while on the EE Transactions page?
