So our twice annual registration event is getting more and more popular. Today it brought the cloud hosting account down, as apparently 5cpu & 8gb ram were not enough. The server admins claim that more CPU would not help due to the crush of I/O operations. Which to me sounds like their database server is not up to snuff.

Not sure how to resolve this, besides finding a new host. Currently EE is installed on a multisite install. The hosting as a whole needs 4 cpu about 10x/month, the rest of the time the usage is under 3cpu. Usually it’s set to 6gb ram, which is needed also about 10x/mo; ram usage is typically under 4gb on average.

I’m not sure how to prevent crashes with EE moving forward. Recommendations are needed!

As the host support states

Indeed, if the CPU is boosted with more CPU cores, the I/O operations will again cause issues and indeed it can be connected to the MySQL databases.

It sounds like their mysql server is crappy. But we don’t have time to move the site to a different server. What can we do to let 125 people register reliably at the same time tomorrow night at 7pm EST?

Hi Arp,

If you update the site to the current version of EE4, when the plugin activates, it will add indexes to some of the rows within the esp_line_items table. This will help reduce any slow queries related to the registration process.
