Because of the way we’re using EE, we don’t want emails sent to the people being registered for an event. We only want the administrator to be notified of the new registrations. However, I don’t see a way of turning off the Registrant recipient, either in the default template or when I try to make a custom template of that message. I’m thinking there’s probably a way to do it through a hook, but haven’t come across it in the forums or documentation. |

After reading a couple of other related threads, I found the answer (still to be tested): It’s a matter of choosing the particular recipient for the message template, and then removing the shortcode for the TO email field. When I do that, on the list of default templates, I can see the recipients for whom I’d removed the email, now showing greyed out. And it was important, in our case, to do this for both the Primary Registrant and the Registrant message recipients, because we’re registered multiple people at a time. As a UX note, I think why this feels counter-intuitive is because my goal was to remove a recipient from an email notification. Because you can’t remove recipients from a template, it seems like there’s no way to stop the emails. Simply deleting the email shortcode feels like you’re going to cause an error in the system – maybe a short note saying “Leave this field blank to disable recipient”?? Once our staff does a test, I’ll marked this resolved. |
You are correct, when you remove the short code from the To field, and then save, the message will no longer send. |

The emails were going out to all registrants after they were registered as a group by a single registrant. Now, among the Global Email templates I saw: Registration Approved Registration Pending Payment I assumed that because each registrant was getting emailed, that it was for the Registration Approved email that I needed to deactivate Primary Registrant and Registrant. But in a test, all registrants still got emailed when the registration was made. So now I’m going to deactivate Primary Registrant from the Registration Pending Payment email and see if that works. |
Hi Linda, What was the Subject of the email all the registrants received? |

Looks like this has stopped the emails, Tony. I’ll see if we can get one of the registrants to send us a copy of what was sent – that would have been a smart troubleshooting trick on my part earlier 🙂 to tell us which type of email message was being sent. Part of our problem is that the participants are supposed to be semi-anonymous, so contact can be an issue – and that’s why them receiving emails was more of an issue than would be the case for other organizations. |
That’s something that Ive not seen requested to much before, but I can understand how it could be use for some events. If you do find any additional emails being sent just let us know, if possible grab the subject line for the email as it will help identify the exact message type. You could also use a plugin such as WP Mail Logging to confirm that only the emails your are expecting to send are being sent. (you don’t need to keep this on the site, just enable it and wait for a couple of registrations) then disable it again. |

Thanks Tony – I’ll try that email logging plugin for another issue too. And the emails have indeed stopped, so it was a matter of turning off Pending Registration emails. |
