Hello, I am currently looking to do a few things with my event espresso usage. This may be a bit lengthy so please bear with me.

A. I need to renew soon as I want to get the discount. However I have questions before I do so.

1. I currently have EE3 and would like to go to 4. However I originally bought 4 and it would not do what I needed so I had to go to 3. Here is what i need it to do and you can tell me if 4 is up to speed yet…
A. Client can choose show by looking at a calendar and not a grid?
B. I can enter the same show or a recurring show once on however many dates I wish? Note: originally I had to duplicate a single show 200 times. Major pain. I need to be able to create a show that takes place every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday etc.. At the same time, at the same place… All year long.
C. I need to be able to enter different shows on the same day. Example… A hypnosis show at 7 and a mentalist show at 9. Hypnosis show appearing one color on the calendar and the mentalist show appearing as a different color on the calendar?
D. I need to be able to scan them in with my phone.
E. Can they bring their email or print out their ticket with rhe we code on it?
F. Currently EE3 asks them for contact info for each category or tickets. Example. Info for the first ADULT, info for the first CHILD, info for the first SENIOR, info for the first MILITARY, and they are all in the same party. I get major complaints about this. Is there any way to turn that off? Where they only enter ONE contact who’s purchasing the tickets? People say “why do you want the name email and address and phone number of my 10 year old!?!?” It’s very awkward!
G. When I switch from 3 to 4. What happens to all of the attendees who have already purchased tickets for future shows? If all of their sudden their records are gone… I am screwed!!! How do I ensure that their records show up on the proper show date and time when I switch? Will it also migrate ALL of the show data? Pictures, email templates, venue information?? I don’t want to make the switch and all of the sudden I have a BLANK CANVAS with no shows, no attendees, no records of the 4000 tickets I have sold between now and the end of the year. I would totally be screwed!

I will also need to switch my license as the one it’s currently associated with is no longer going to be used.

I know this was a lot of questions but as you can imagine EE has pretty much become my most important tool in running my show. I can’t afford to have it screwed up because something I need isn’t ready.

Hi there,

I will provide an answer for each of your questions, however based on the fact they you need recurring events I would not recommend updating to EE4 at this time as it does not support those type of events.

A. Client can choose show by looking at a calendar and not a grid?

EE4 has the EE4 Events Calendar Add-on for this. It works in a very similar way to the EE3 Calendar.

B. I can enter the same show or a recurring show once on however many dates I wish? Note: originally I had to duplicate a single show 200 times. Major pain. I need to be able to create a show that takes place every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday etc.. At the same time, at the same place… All year long.

As mentioned above EE4 does not support recurring events at this time so again you would need to duplicate the event multiple times. For recurring events EE3 is currently the best option.

C. I need to be able to enter different shows on the same day. Example… A hypnosis show at 7 and a mentalist show at 9. Hypnosis show appearing one color on the calendar and the mentalist show appearing as a different color on the calendar?

Yes, you can setup colours for your categories and they will be used within Calendar.

D. I need to be able to scan them in with my phone.

EE4 now has apps available for scanning tickets:

https://eventespresso.com/2016/05/event-app-for-check-in-ticket-scanning-now-available-for-event-espresso-4/

E. Can they bring their email or print out their ticket with rhe we code on it?

Yes, users can print there tickets using the browser.

EE4 provide more options on the information you request, you can request only a single set of information for all of the registration regardless of the tickets selected.

With EE3 you need the registration information at least once for each ticket type when using MER, that can not be disabled at this time.

Event Espresso 4 does migrate most of your data from EE3.

It will migrate the events (and the relevant event post data including Venues) and also the registrations/attendees made onto those events.

However the email templates will not be migrated over. EE4 uses a completely different system for messages compared to EE3, the data does not transfer over without causing further problems that it would to re-create your email templates.

So EE4 will migrate as much data as it can from EE3 to EE4, but not absolutely everything, simply because it can’t as some data just does not apply in EE4.

Before migrating the live site we highly recommend creating a development copy of the site and migrating the data there, then you can use that site to confirm if all of your data migrates correctly and see the differences between your EE3 events and EE4.

My intention is not to scare you away from EE4 with the above, it is an improvement over EE3 however EE4 is very different from EE4 so its best to confirm that your data does work in the way you expect it to once migrated over. The way to do that is to test away from public view on a development copy of the same data.

You first make sure you deactivate EE from the old non-used website, then you request a key reset from your account page.
