Hi first time EE user here. Could someone help me understand the relationships between events, datetimes and tickets please, I cannot find any documentation that describes it. Only the menu items, which is not descriptive of the concepts and relationships between them.
It might help if I explain what I’m intending to do. The site is selling training courses, I have several courses that will run at many times over the year, approx once a month. Two different courses with the same datetime and venue is possible sharing a max capacity (it’s a sailing school and the venue is a boat) – should I create single events as courses and then multiple datatimes for each time the course runs – then individual tickets for each datetime? Or multiple events? I’m confused!
These are some great questions. Generally if the training course meets once, then one event is recommended. If the training course is signed up for once, then meets 6 times over the duration of the course, then you input all 6 the datetimes within one event.
Two different courses with the same datetime and venue where they share a max capacity is an interesting use case, but can be handled by setting up one event, then set the max capacity for the datetime (input into the Datetime’s Reg Limit field), then two separate ticket types. This allows for different pricing if each course has different prices, and allows for enforcing that shared registration limit between the two.
Thanks Josh that’s helpful. I understand now I have to create multiple events of the same type, instead of multiple datetimes. I have created a single event with two ticket types and that seems to meet our needs.
