Hi,

I have a drop menu with items and set to be a required field.

However users can submit the registration without having selected any item from the menu and with no notification to complete the field being displayed.

How can this be corrected, thanks?

Hi there,

It turns out there’s a bug in Event Espresso 4.8 that’s causing the issue you’re seeing. It’s fixed in Event Espresso 4.9. Would you like an early copy of Event Espresso 4.9? If so, you can download a copy from our Github repository:

Hi, when will the 4.9 be available to update via the dashboard? Having to uninstall all the EE4 addons and reinstall them on a production site is not ideal.

Hello,

We are still testing the next major release and fixing issues as we find them so we do not have an exact release date at this time.

Hi Lorenzo,

If the 4.9 release is not fully tested and issue free then it might be a case of fixing the drop down issue but then having other new issues to deal with.

Can a patch be released that just fixes the drop down issue in 4.8?

Best regards,
John

Hi John,

We’re not planning on releasing a patch for 4.8 that just fixes the required drop down fields.

May I ask what you mean by “Having to uninstall all the EE4 addons and reinstall them on a production site is not ideal.” ? There doesn’t seem to be a need to reinstall add-ons if you’re updating from 4.8 to 4.9, but maybe I’m missing something.

Hi Josh,

Just following the upgrade instructions for EE4 here https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-upgrade-event-espresso/, updating manually via dashboard or FTP sections it says plugins have to be removed and reinstalled. I’m hesitant to install 4.9 anyway, as Lorenzo stated there are still issues with it and it’s not release ready, I don’t need to be dealing with more issues that have no solution until a far off release date.

Also the required field function for multiple radio buttons or checkboxes is not working, works ok for one checkbox or radio button but more than one and nothing.

Seeing the extent of this issue it’s surprising a fix isn’t being released especially when there is no timline for the realease of 4.9.

My client has been holding off going live on the site because of this issue, I now have to tell them there is no fix.

There is some misinformation in this thread that I’ll try to clear up:

1) Event Espresso 4.9 has no known issues at the moment
2) The release of Event Espresso 4.9 is scheduled to happen very soon
3) Where it says in https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-upgrade-event-espresso/, under updating manually via dashboard or FTP sections only the plugins to be updated have to be removed and reinstalled. The Event Espresso add-ons can remain on your site.

I’ll add one more to the list:

4) Event Espresso 4.9 currently powers Eventsmart.com

If it wasn’t release ready, it would not have been deployed to the thousands of sites there.

Thaks for clarifying that Josh and I have installed v4.9

However the problem stil persists, the registration from can still be submitted with no notifcation to the user to select an itme from the drop down list

Do I need to do something else? I have checked that the Drop Down is set to be a required field and it is.

Can you verify whether there’s a non-option that’s in the drop down? The reason I ask is because EE 4.9 doesn’t allow you to input a non-option? I can imagine it’s possible for a third party/customized script to add a non-option. Is that the case here?
