when a user registers they are set to take a place in the course even if they don’t complete payment. how can that be fixed. payment needs to be mandatory.

also, if the payment doesn’t go through, the end user is not getting a payment declined message, they are thinking that their registration completed. the system should inform them of the decline and prompt them to try an alternative credit card.

please advise on both.

Hi, the first part of your support post describes how Event Espresso works.

The information for a registrant/attendee needs to be recorded before a payment can be associated.

There isn’t an option to not record it if no payment is made. With that mentioned, a registrant with a status of pending payment will not count against the registration limits. If they do decide to pay in the future, then the registration status would be changed to approved and that would count for the registration limits.

On your second question, are you using a current version of Event Espresso at 4.7.9 and is the payment declined message type enabled?

Lorenzo, you wrote in your answer that “If they do decide to pay in the future, then the registration status would be changed to approved and that would count for the registration limits.” But there doesn’t seem to be a way for that registrant to make that payment through event espresso. He can’t get back to his application. Am I missing someything.

Thank you

Hi Allison, they would have the opportunity to pay via the registration declined message type which should be going out. Did you get a chance to check that it is enabled?

Here is an example of what that email looks like:

Thank you, but this means that the process would need to be started over from the beginning. In my case the payment was pending and a email was sent to the registrant. In it was a linked registration code. But linking on it went no where since the registrant was not the admin. So I guess I can have the pending letter sent but the whole process needs to be started again on the web site.

Hi,

In the Pending Payment message type there is a shortcode called [PAYMENT_URL]

(full code: <p class="callout">You can <a href="[PAYMENT_URL]">make a payment here »</a>.</p>)

This will allow the user to reach the payment page and make a payment against the registrations.

For payment options suggestion: this is a more reactive approach. that is, they get a decline message via email once they go through the registration process and leave the site.

is there a way to display the decline message on the screen. for example, a client enters all the information and puts in payment information, hits submit… if the payment is declined by the payment gateway, they get a message on the screen that lets the end user know that the payment was declined and that they should verify and/or enter new credit card information to proceed. is that possible?

Hi Mohawk College Enterprise,

Can you let us know which payment method is in use where it’s not displaying a declined message on the screen? This will help us know where to investigate because normally, a credit card declined message should automatically display if the card was declined.

credit card is used as payment method. payment gateway is authorize.net

Hi there,

Can you check something real quick? If you put the gateway into test mode, and use 46282 for the zip code, 4007000000027 for the card number, and it will automatically decline the card. It should display a message that looks like this:

https://www.evernote.com/shard/s4/sh/5404162a-1a2f-458a-ad39-1649129d6b59/cd53b265d4d32226f37763fcb4418a59

If it does not display a declined message, can you check to see if there has been some CSS added to the theme or elsewhere that hides the Event Espresso notices that normally display during checkout?
