Starting sometime within the last week, there have been errors when users attempt to register for an event. After selecting ticket quantities and clicking “Register Now”, instead of being directed to the registration form, users are presented with the following error page:
“ERROR: Sorry, there was an error. Please be sure JavaScript and Cookies are enabled in your browser and try again.”
I was able to narrow down the problem to WP-SpamShield, specifically the the “anti-spam for miscellaneous forms” feature. Selecting the option “Disable anti-spam for miscellaneous forms” in WP-SpamShield settings does resolve the problem, but I would rather not leave this turned off long term—especially since everything was working fine until recently. WP-SpamShield has not been updated since things were last working, so I’m assuming the issue is due to a change with EE.
Do you know what’s going on or how to resolve this problem? Is there something I can whitelist in the WP-SpamShield settings?
It sounds like WP-Spamshield is interfering with cookies. That part of Event Espresso hasn’t changed for quite some time, so the “Disable anti-spam for miscellaneous forms” is the WP SpamShield-provided solution. If you need further assistance, you could contact them. We do not support or recommend using the WP-Spamshield plugin.
One of the reasons we do not recommend using WP-Spamshield is because we’ve had reports of other issues with it, and have tried to work with the plugin developer which I’m afraid went nowhere.
