Questions about categories and venue management with Calendar addon

Hi there,

In order to manage an additional studio location, I am attempting to create custom calendars sorted by event category, as a follow up to this question:

However, I am coming across several hurdles, and wondering if there are any ways to address the following:

1.I have created new “venue” categories,but I notice that when I assign 2 categories to an event, my original category colour gets overrided. I chose the option to “not use color picker” for the new category, but it still (sometimes) reverts back to the default blue! I see the same issue is discussed here, has this been resolved yet? https://eventespresso.com/topic/display-multiple-categories-on-calendar/

2. I’d like to be able to create a calendar with multiple categories, so I can show a specific class category, which is taking place in a specific venue – but, it’s not possible to sort for multiple categories in the calendar? (even if it was, I suspect it would show all events taking place in both categories, rather than only the events with both categories assigned to them…confusing yet?)

I found I can achieve this with my event lists, using the shortcode [ESPRESSO_VENUE_EVENTS id=1 category_identifier=”category1″ ] But, I would also like to display my events using the calendar, as it is more visual representation. Any thoughts on how to make this work?

Assuming none of these issues can be resolved at this time, I wonder if this is something that we could request a customization from the EE team for? (preferrably to allow us to use the venue shortcode + category shortcodes to create custom calendars) Please advise us of the best way to proceed.

Hi,

1) The option “use colour pickers”, if it No then its default behaviour is to assign the blue colour. If it is yes then it should assign the colour you select for the category.

With multiple categories, the last category selected will be the one used for the colour.

2) “but, it’s not possible to sort for multiple categories in the calendar” Correct. “I suspect it would show all events taking place in both categories” Most likely that is how it would work if the option existed.

We are looking to add a category and event filter to the calendar, which while doesn’t meet your exact needs, might be useful to your visitors as they will be able to filter the content of the calendar by category and venue.

There is no timescale for release, but we are hoping sooner rather than later, it is currently making its way through testing.
