Greetings,

For one of our active events, those in charge have decided that we ought to pose an additional query during registration, including a few admin only questions. So I went into Question Groups and added the additional questions for those who register from now on.

Of course, the new questions won’t appear in the “Registration Form Answers” section for those who’ve registered previously. Which means that when we contact them for more information, there aren’t answer fields in their Registration Details that we can update.

How can I get these new questions to appear in the Reg Details for those who have already registered? (I am decently proficient in navigating MySQL.)

Kind Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Of course, the new questions won’t appear in the “Registration Form Answers” section for those who’ve registered previously.

They should show up when you add them to the question group.

Here is an example registration which had no custom questions/groups set on the event when registering:

https://monosnap.com/file/0wF7BFRBSTZjBvBJ4ZtnXfAKyhrdue

Now, that only had the ‘Personal Information’ question group assigned to it, so if I edit that group and add a custom question to it:

Then go back and refresh the edit registration page:

The same will happen for additional question groups added ono the event the registration is for and any additional question groups within those.

Have you checked to see if your registration questions are showing up already?

Greetings Tony,

Thank you! Well that makes perfect sense. As we’re also relocating the event, I had made a second question group specific to the amenties of that new venue. But in doing so that means new registrations would use a different question group ID.

So the obvious thing to do is switch back to using the original question group for this active event, apply all of the desired questions that we want, and give the question group a proper name for use with the new venue. And then give the second group the older name and questions.

So now the additional questions are appearing in each attendee’s Registration Details. Wow glad we did this change before any new registrations came in! Thank you for responding so quickly, we appreciate it. 🙂

Kind Regards,
Chris

Pro Tip: When editing an active event, avoid switching to a different Question Group. Instead just add/remove or edit the questions themselves.

Just to note here, the same should happen with an additional/different question group.

So from above, the last screenshot is:

https://monosnap.com/file/siwRItO0tBOy1ANBC5MPKEgFL9XUMY

That’s after I’ve added a custom question to the personal information group, which was already set on the event etc.

If I now edit the event that registration is for an add a question group that has never been assigned to that event:

https://monosnap.com/file/4YKqDBEtXhtp44cIqxX4eGzs4tT6nn

Update the event and refresh the registration page again:

https://monosnap.com/file/J64XIBB4j8Jz4AIbvnbrbUzcUZe3qb

To explain a little on the edit registration page, Event Espresso isn’t pulling in the questions/answers assigned to a registration, what it’s doing is pulling in all of the question groups assigned to the event it is related to and then looping over all of them to output the questions for that event.

So, to add a new question group into that section it simply needs to be assigned to the event itself and be assigned to either be collected for the ‘Primary Registrant’ or ‘Additional Registrants’, or both.

Hi Tony,

Okay well I don’t know what to tell you. If we sell multiple tickets for an event when Question Group #1 is enabled, and then later switch to Question Group #2 (plus save, refresh, etc)… the “Registration Details” page for those Attendees will still display Question Group #1. Only registrations done after this change will display Question Group #2. This is with EE4.10.29.p after saving the event again, refreshing the browser, and purging the site cache.

So… it seems the best thing for us to do, in addition to using the default question groups “Personal Information” and “Address Information”, is stick with one custom question group throughout a sale period. And if questions need to be added/ revised, then make those changes in the “Edit Question Group” tab without switching the event to a completely different custom question group.

Kind Regards,
Chris

Strange, I spent some time looking this and I can’t reproduce.

I’ll happily take a look over a couple of the registrations and see if anything stands out if that helps?

If so I’ll need temp login details which you can send using this form:

https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

The above method of using a single custom group should work fine but switching them on the event should also work.

Hi Tony,

It’s fine. Not switching an active event to a different question group works reliably for us. This topic can be closed. Thank you for your assistance and knowledge in this matter.

Kind Regards,
Chris
